“One of the best hotels I've ever been. And I am a globetrotter...”
Perfection is the name of this hotel. I mean, even the (minor) flaws make this gem charmer. The location is breathtaking: the lake, the mountains, the isolation sensation, the quietness, blue skies, little boats, old italian houses on the edge of water... I guess ALL rooms face the lake. The hotel decoration is exquisite and my wife and I felt like guests in someone's else mansion, occupying one of the rooms. The patio/courtyard at the edge of the lake is to die for, full of colorful plants and flowers.
You can try to swim on the lake like I did, but in April the water is frikkin cold. Exploring the small town around the hotel and the claustrophobic narrow streets is also an available adventure.
The hotel is so cozy that hurts. The staff is amazingly friendly and efficient, always available for you. I really don't know how they manage to treat every guest as unique individuals. Awesome job. The hotel restaurant is also a popular town spot for non guests, serving delicious gourmet italian food, but a little pricey and limited (small portion) though. COMPLETELY worth it...
The room is a little bit small for US standards, but is really confortable and clean. Did I mention the view? 8-) Internet connection works well and it is reliable. My only complaints goes to the beds (two twins beds - not cool for romance...) and the tiny TV.
The buffet breakfast included in the rate is very good and tasty, giving you fresh crunchy European style bread (not the greasy junk sold in the US), cold cuts (including different kinds of cheese), cakes, juices, strong decent coffee (not that waterish black stuff served in the US), lots of fruits... You name it!
Bottom line: You can't beat US $ 150 a night (off-season) in a virtually "5-star" hotel. In the US a night in a hotel like that would cost easily $ 300 and up.
