We have stayed at this motel various times over the last 35 years, 5 years ago having been our last stay there until my husband and I stopped there on Thanksgiving weekend 2011, and were very shocked to see how this place has deteriorated. Besides housekeeping issues such as only having one towel and no bathmat; the bedspread had a large hardened dark spot - looked like chocolate glaze from a doughnut, the grey carpet was EXTREMELY stained and the chairs were from the 60's or 70's with what's left of the original upholstery on them also stained very badly. The room was very hot & muggy when we entered, and smelled like some kind of powdery cleaner had been used to mask a previous odor - the combined smell was not good. We opened the door to try and cool the room off and air it out, then noticed that the window could not be locked. After several trips back and forth to the front desk to take care of all the other things, this was the final straw - we were not willing to stay in a room that was not secure. The front desk person assured us that it was a very safe place, but when he offered a full refund, we quickly took it and left. The young man at the front desk tried to help us each time we went to the office, but we both felt that he was trying to hurry up and make us happy so he could go back to whatever (maybe TV or video game) he was doing in the back room - we both felt like we were bothering him. He seemed to have a "whatever" attitude - said he was not the owner and had only worked there for 6 months. We told him that they were grossly overcharging for the room ($80) - half of that would have been too much. It seems like the property is being "used up" and proper maintenance is definitely not a concern to the owners. We have tried to support this "mom and pop" business through the years, and feel bad to say it, but will definitely NOT return here ever again.
