This hotel is excellent – everything works as it should (which to be honest I rarely find to be the case when I travel). Our transfer from the airport was seamless; check in ditto, facilities, dining, spa – all marvellous! It was extremely (unusually I believe) hot when we stayed there (35/36 degrees) and future guests should note that the hotel is not air conditioned. However one quickly adjusts to this and because it is a quiet place we were able to sleep with our balcony windows open every night. The food is very good indeed - the breakfast and evening buffets are extensive and there are two choices of evening restaurant included within the half board. We dined in the a la carte restaurant one night (at additional cost) and found this to be excellent. One evening, as we arrived for dinner, the maitre’d was temorarily away from his post. There was another man in the lobby talking on his mobile phone. When he saw us he immediately broke off his conversation and came to greet us, switching to English as soon as he realised we didn’t speak German. He asked where we’d like to sit and then the maitre’d returned to take us to our table. He told us that the man we spoke to was the owner of the hotel, Karl Reiter. I like to see the owner of a hotel interacting with guests – this demonstrates to me that he cares about maintaining standards. The hotel also has its own extensive wine cellar and staff are knowledgable with regard to wine selection. All the hotel staff were very friendly and polite and speak very good English - we were impressed that they translated the guide to the day's events and meals each day. The bedrooms are very comfortable. The bar and lobby area is a little dated decoration-wise, but still pleasant. The spa areas are super-luxurious with many choices – the Merkur health centre is particularly good. The riding stables are also extremely smart and well run – I enjoyed riding there and hacking out in the nearby forest. All in all I would recommend this hotel 100%.
