“Perfectly relaxing!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

We stayed in Gikas Appartments from September 3rd untill September 12th 2011 and really enjoyed our stay in these fabulous appartments.
We had a studio on the ground floor, but that was big enough for just the two of us.
The decoration in the room was simple, but everything was clean and in good working order. The bathroom had just been redone and most of the furniture and the painting was brand new. So it was crisp and spotlessly clean. Also our rooms were cleaned every other day, and so was the changing of the bedlinnen and the towels. The appartments and garden are really well kept by Sousie.
The advantage of being on the ground floor, was the easy access to the pool. The pool area had plenty of sunloungers and parasols for shade.
The food in the pool bar was nice, so we had most of our lunches here. Especially since the prices Sousie charged were so low, that I didn't bother making my own salads or sandwiches. The vegetables that were served, came fresh from Sousie's garden and you could really taste the difference. Sousie really makes you feel at home here.
The appartments aren't really equiped to cook your own dinner, but it's perfect for making breakfast, or even lunch if you want. And for dinner, there's plenty of options in Gouvia-town, which is only a 5 minute walk. We really liked Leon's Restaurant and the 9 Muses.
The busstop is only 200 meters away, so it's very easy to catch a bus to go to Kerkyra (Corfu-town) or to Dassia (buy your bus tickets in the mini-market that's just around the corner of the appartments).
And since the appartments are off the main road, they are quietly located, but still within walking distance of the beach and restaurants of Gouvia. The views are spectacular (especially from the top floors), without having to climb very much.
Corfu is a beautifull green island. It's nice to rent a car for one or two days to drive around the island and see some of the local villages and other sights. And off course Kerkyra can't be missed, but that's easiest by bus, because parking can be a challenge.
So if you're looking for a relaxing holiday in a nice appartment, go to Gikas Appartments!

“Mama Suzie - A Star”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

We booked the above with Jet2 holidays but 3 days before departure were told we had been switched to Dimitra apartments in Gouvia. Have nothing good to say about Dimitra, but visited Gikas to see what we had missed out on and have to say that Jet 2 will be hearing from us. Susie is the most hospitable hotelier we have ever come across she made our holiday, even tho we were not residents. On our last day we had to vacate our rooms at 12 and had until 7 to wait for transfer coach. Susie let us borrow a vacant apartment to use that day completely free of charge - we tried to pay her for it and she wouldn't hear of it. In fact quite often she refused money for drinks or ice lollies at poolside. Would recommend Gikas to everyone and the people of Gouvia were lovely. Only people found not helpful were Hellenic Island Services who were Jet2 appointed reps on Corfu.

We recently returned from a week at Ghikas apartments in Sept 09. What a great holiday!! Was very apprehensive before going after reading various reviews some not so favourable and we had no need to be. We stayed in a lovely apartment- massive and it was cleaned every day. The pool area was lovely and the best thing of all- Sousie the owner was amazing. Such a sweet lady- extremely helpful and her food-WOW! Can recommend everything on her menu but particularly the salads and tune sandwiches which were beautiful and fresh. There was a lot of other nationalities staying there but most spoke english and were friendly. Gouvia itself is fairly quiet, or maybe it was the time of year but there were some fab restaurants and all the staff were so friendly. Can recommend a trip down to the harbour as there are some restaurants down there and it's nice to sit out and look out on all the expensive boats. One other thing, gouvia is quite cheap still, a lot more so then Tyrkey which is where we had our last holiday. Another must do while you are there is to go out with Captain Spiros on his boat the Madalena- we just popped down to the beach where it goes fom and went out with him for the day where we had a lovely beach barbeque and he took us to San Stefanos on the northern side of the island to swim in the sea- his food was amazing and him and his wife really made our holiday as it was such a fab day. I wouldn't go to Gouivia if you are wanting really banging nightlife but if you are a couple wanting a relaxing break it's spot on. So massive thanks to Sousie for her great hospitality and we hope to see her again some day. Awesome.
P.S her cocktails are also out of this world- but very strong!! Be warned!!

hi,
I've stayed there with my husband for a week last September.
Apartments are VERY, VERY basic, quite old and noisy.
We've had two lizards, and a lots of ants in the room plus there was a noise coming from the bathroom all the time (no stops!).
Despite this, room was quite clean, and the pool was great as well. Not huge but big enough and clean.
We had to pay €10.00 per week for the deposit box plus €20.00 for staying in the room on the last day as we've had a flight in the evening.
I wouldn't complain much if there was no 3 stars! giving Gikas 3 stars is a joke.
no recommending much.

me and my boyfriend are just back after a week stay in the Ghikas Appart. and we thought it was a lovely place to stay. the greek lady "suzie" that runs the place was like superwoman. as the other reviewer said, she was up at the dawn feeding the chickens and would be the last to go to bed after giving us food and drinks all night.

we were put in appartment no. 8 first, but it was more like a shed out the back of the building with no balcony, no sunshine, and it wasnt the cleanest. so we were moved to another room the next morning which was lovely, clean and bright. my advice would be say your not staying in no. 8 if they put u there.

the staff were very friendly/ helpful.
the only other thing is the road up to the appart is very dark and quiet @ night time so you wouldnt walk it by yourself!

Gouvia itself is nice enough but the beaches are bad. fortunately you are allowed to use all the diff appartments pools so we had a bit of variety.
i'd recommend the Govino Bay hotel down the road from the Ghikas which has lovely gardens, pools and its next to the bay.

and make sure to go scuba diving if you can, its fantastically cheap and worth it
