Stayed in the Oro Negro after our flight was cancelled due to the Air Controllers Strike.
We were put up by Easyjet amidst a lot of chaos at the airport, so well done to Easyjet!
The hotel management were very helpful and assisted whenever we wanted - this was very welcome as we were originally living day by day waiting for a number of flights that were cancelled.
The location is good for Las Americas and in a fairly quiet location, there are strip clubs/lap dancing clubs nearby, but we never had any trouble from prostitutes etc. - my advice is to be confident and not worry too much about this.
The hotel has good facilities, pool etc., however unless you usually eat VERY average food, you will tire of the buffet very quickly. There is a massive choice of food, but average quality at best, but you can eat a lot of it! (and most of the guests seemed to!).
The majority of the guests at this hotel are retired or near retirement age, and it was hard to actually see anyone that was enjoying themselves. Eating in the restaurant reminded me of the first day of the sales and was a complete scrum. Guests complaining that other people had pinched "their" table and lots of elbowing in the queue for omlettes!
The entertainment at the hotel is very poor with formentioned guests looking like they were on their last legs rather than enjoying themselves.
Rooms are ok, a dead cockroach was still in our room the day we left having been there 4 nights so cleaning could be better. There was also a lot of noisy hoovering around the pool area each morning (probably not an issue if it doesn't rain and they don't need to dry the area!).
All in all, was probably a diamond when first built, but 20+ years later is tired, faded, like most of the guests!
Wouldn't stay here again by choice but this is purely down to the hoards of english waiting to die here, not the management!!
