“Four stars well deserved”

We have just spent 11 days at Tindaya hotel, and I really have nothing bad to say - except for one thing, which is minor enough to be left for the end. The hotel is well kept, it has 3 lovely pools for adults, including 1 heated, and 2 small for children, also heated. Our room was not quite regular, as the view was somehow obstructed; but then we got a considerable discount for that, so it was fair enough deal and nothing to complain about. Actually, I saw several rooms with rather strange disposition and no view at all, as they were located between the 2nd and 1st floors, just above the pools, but the absolute majority offer stunning ocean views. It is probably worth mentioning that the reception is situated on the 3rd floor, which means the street level. The room itself was spacious, with all the usual bathroom amenities and even some extra. Maid service, food at the restaurant, staff attitude - everything was impeccable and deserve 4 stars at the very least. As to entertainment, it was rather scarce (for adults, not for the children, as the miniclub under supervision of lovely lady called Vittoria was great). Evening entertainment consisted of a single show per night without much variety, as in 11 days we had 2 snake and 2 parrot shows. And there I come to the proverbial fly in the ointment: for the very first time I saw entertainer who obviously hated children. One evening we were lengthy preached about the staff not being babysitters etc., and the next night children were banned from bingo, it allegedly being "adults-only" game. Actually, after this announcement all families with children left, leaving very few people who "qualified" for the game. I assume it was not the hotel's official policy, just this individual's, namely chief entertainer’s personal position, as otherwise I could not describe the hotel as children-unfriendly; on the contrary, everybody (and everything) else seemed very welcoming.

Room Tip: The higher, the better; but, on the other hand, it seems that there are just few rooms with less fav...

“Good but avoid disturbed rooms”

The Tindaya is a very nice hotel with an excellent pool area and an excellent beach too (if you don't are disturbed of naked people). But DON'T ACCEPT ROOMS number 437-439. These bedrooms are just above the entertainment lounge with loud discomusic almost every night and the receptionists are not very interested in changing room (we asked three times).
The demi-pension (breakfast and dinner) is indeed worth it's price!

“Decent hotel, wonderful location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Hotel was ok, the staff was polite, the room was spacious and clean, plus we had sea view from our balcony. Make sure you do not book a promo room as that would put you into some kind of basement with no view at all.

Food was decent, a bit repetitive but still ok. If you compare it to the food standard of a RIU hotel than you might find it poor. Special mention to the Gazpacho soup.. this one was really excellent every single day.

We went there in april and the pools were not heated. Outside temperatures were ok (24-25) but the water temp of the polls could have been warmer.

Hotel has a separated "italian side"... but that didn't bother us.
This is teh perfect location for a relaxed beach holiday. The beaches in front of the hotel are very nice. You have to visit Sotavento beach (yes the one from the postcards), it's about 15-20 mins walking along the beach in front of the hotel but it is simply an amazing beauty. It can compare to many beaches in exotic countries

I would have rated this 3.5/5 , but for the beach location i give it 4/5.

“Couldn't give a 3.5!”

Not a bad hotel at all. Pretty much what you would expect from a mass market beach holiday hotel. Great location and great local beaches with very easy access (straight from the hotel gardens). Staff were polite and friendly. Hotel gardens and shared communal areas are large and well kept; you don't really get the feeling that you are sharing a building with 500+ other people - it's a large hotel but feels like there's loads of space for everyone. The only criticism of the shared spaces would be that there is not enough seating outside the bar area at night and that much more could be made of the rooftop terrace area - but this is a minor point. Rooms are very good and you will be very unlucky to get one of the few rooms without a sea view - no negatives there.

The only real negatives I would have of this hotel would be that the pools are very cold and not very deep (therefore not great for swimming). I usually love cooler pools so I'm guessing they must be regularly refilled and not heated for me to feel this way. There are plenty of sunloungers but our European neighbours, as usual, fail to practice sunlounger etiquette. If there hadn't have been so many I would have been tempted to throw their towels into the pools! There are three large pools to choose from and there is hardly anyone in them - probably because of the temperature issue! You do feel the wind by the pool areas but the beach is more sheltered and fabulous! Sunloungers down there are 4 Euros per day per bed, not operated by the hotel.

Biggest negative is regarding the restaurants. Firstly it's important to say that the food is generally good. But lukewarm at best by the time you have got your buffet plate sorted and sat down. The waiting staff are not great at relaying the outside tables so if you want to eat outside every night, as we did (although it was borderline for temperature by end Oct) you will need to either sit at a dirty table until they reset it or request a table be reset. I wasn't impressed by this. If I was to return there I would recommend eating from the show cooking stations as the food it hotter and more freshly cooked.

Review over folks. Take on board the negatives but rest assured this hotel will provide you with a lovely holiday and you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you want to get to sleep before about 11.30pm request a room away from the Italian Veraclub side...

“Very small territory, similar to other 4 star in FUE, but costs more. Italian/ International discrimination!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

Exploring the hotels for our next holiday, we have entered here and watched a little around. The grounds are nice and all looks very clean and tidy. The beach is just there – 30 seconds and you are in the sea. The beach is so and so but 500 meters on the right there is a nice clean beach and further starts ‘’Playa Barca’’ – an incredible large beach for kite-surfers and not only (if it is not windy it is excellent to take the sun and make a bath). There are lots of funny squirrels in front of hotel among the rocks – this is a daily fun for kids (buy unsalted nuts or prepare pieces of fruit and vegetables).
The Italian animation is very quiet and not disturbing. The negative sides we have noticed:
1 – The territory is very very small and the space is really limited. We have passed here at 12.00 and there was no any free bed at the swimming pool.
2 – The animation is divided between Italians (Vera Club) and other guests. The one for other guests is non-existant. The Vera Club animation is very nice but is reserved exclusively for Vera Club guests (have particular bracelet color). This discrimination is strange and disgusting and makes you feel something like an outcast… There are 2 mini-clubs, one for international guests was empty and looked sad when we were there (there was only a couple of unwatched german kids on the playground and nobody inside the house). The other one was Italian and was full of life – Italian-speaking staff was entertaining Italian kids and there were lots of happy kids inside. The evening show is also divided to Italian and german. Mmmmm…. Have never ever seen this kind of an offensive thing elsewhere.
3 – The rooms are simple and are ok, the only thing – it was strange to see a bath curtain in the room instead of a modern bathtube glass (as the other hotels have). It is impossible to wash and desinfect the bath curtain so well as the glass! There is a little fridge in the room which is useful.
I can not comment on food, but I have seen that the drinks are the same as in the other hotels. They offer beer, wine, sparkling wine (local champagne) etc. at all bars.
You have to consider that Costa Calma is a small resort with few bars and restaurants. There is DIVINO for dancing, OASIS PARK ZOO for kids in 10-minutes drive (too expensive), the beaches are overcrouded (if you compare to Jandia beaches which are empty, large and lovely). And yes… Note, that in the whole area I haven’t seen so many nudists (naturists) all together as on the beach of Tindaya. They have like a special area on this beach and there are many many many of them. Be prepared and prepare your kids. If you go to the other beaches you will see many nudists but not so many concentrated all together.
I think that if you find Tindaya for 600-700 pounds per week for a family of 2 adults and 1 child – you can go there and it will be a good bargain. But if you have to pay more – choose one of the Sunrise hotels. The same quality for the lower price.
