“A tricky one!”

Service? Great!
Got an upgrade on the room! Spacious, right on beach!
Location? Good!
Perfect for a recovery week! Quiet!
Food? For being buffe-style it's great leaning on excellent.

Endless lines of Germans waiting for dinner? Yes. (Nothing against Germans. live in Germany myself.)
Orange tiled bathroom from a bad 70s movie? Yes.
Stained bedlinen? Yes.
Extra charge for a pool towel? Yes.
Extra charge for Internet with dodgy coverage? Yes.
Extra charge for in-room deposit box? Yes.
Any chance to get two wineglasses for room use? No problem! A corkscrew? Impossible,...
14 inch 'fat tv' with a thousand German channels and CNN? Yes.
Guests out reserving sunbeds at 7 am? Big yes.

Its a difficult rating!
Its the Canaries, not central SoMa.
Its mid-winter, average age is skyrocketing. (Nothing against older people!)

Right now, its a strong three in my world...
A four or even a five is deffo within reach, but hey, Management, wake up!
There is work ahead if you want to survive.

“PRIDES ITSELF ON ITS LOCATION RATHER THAN ITS AMENITIES”

Stayed here for a week with a friend. Knew it was going to be a quiet resort but the hotel itself could do a lot more to keep guests up. The bar is open till 1am but their all-inclusive and entertainment finish at 11pm. If they had a DJ or further entertainment, then people would stay up later. The hotel complex consists of 4 blocks on 3 levels, like little holiday bungalows. Very picturesque but confusing to get around for the first day. Hotel guests are mainly 90% German and other Europeans, but they were very friendly and polite. LIKES - spacious bathroom, location to beach, shop in hotel, fridge in room, pool/sunbathing area, helpful staff. DISLIKES - no English channels in television in rooms, not even News 24 or a music channel, ridiculous. Air-Con just consists of a ceiling fan and hotel itself is not air-conditioned either. Although we were on half-board and not All-Inclusive, there was no snacks you could buy at lunchtime apart from what was on offer to the AI guests for sale at 2 Euros each. What annoyed me most was having to wear long trousers for dinner. What a farce, you swear it was the Ritz Hotel. Women were allowed to wear shorts but not men, that is blatant sexual discrimination, even the restaurant manager was wearing a very short skirt above the knees. When you're hit through sunning yourself all day you don't want to wear long trousers in the night for dinner especially in a hot reataurant with no air-con. Food was OK, some dishes better than others. Salad bar and breakfasts were excellent. All in all the hotel provided us with a nice break for a week but the Taro prides itself more on its location than in house amenities. It could do a lot more there and be a much better hotel that what it is.

“Excellent holiday”

Me & my daughter (23 yrs) went to this hotel on a last minute winter break and had a lovely time. We went to Corralejo last year but thought that this resort was much nicer. The food was excellent and lots of choice at every meal and the wine certainly wasn't watered down as in some A/I and didn't have to be taken out of plastic glasses. The hotel is right on the lovely sandy beach which is good to walk along until it is warm enough to sunbathe (in the winter). The bedroom was quite large and comfortable but was let down by the bathroom. The window had previously been broken and boarded up which meant that we couldn't open the window and by the time we had both taken our showers the bathroom was running with condensation. To add to this, the shower screen was missing the rubber seal along the bottom and so both the floor and the toilet were drenched by the time we had finished. I mentioned this to reception and all she said was 'I know, I will send some more towels'. Also they advertise a fitness room/tennis/sauna/mini golf - this was a big let down as it is in a separate building and the facilities are very run down. It looks like they might be re-doing the tennis courts but if this is your priority then this hotel isn't for you. There isn't much to do in Costa Calma and is mainly dominated by German holidaymakers but for a relaxing break then we would definitely recommend this hotel and resort.

“Excellent Hotel which caters for Germans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

Had booked hotel Sunrise Monica but found on arrival that we had been upgraded to Taro Beach due to refurbushments at Monica beach. We were only Brits there for the 12 days, rest of guests were mainly German ( and it's true about them being up early to grab sunbeds- thought it was a myth- but there they were putting towels out in dark at 5:45am. The staff were very friendly, all reception spoke fluent English, the bar, and animation staff all commented on our being a rarity as so few English stay there, everywhere was spotless, food very good , lovely crispy bacon, with perfect scrambled eggs and bucks fizz for breakfast. All inc is limited to 11:00am -11pm, snacks available for hour in afternoon, then cakes for hour. Animation team worked hard to make everyone feel included, all spoke at least three languages. My son was 18 during our stay and the restaurant decorated the table with flowers, made the napkins look like candles and had two bottles of champagne on ice waiting for us- made for a special night. Hotel is above the beach so sloping paths, going down is okay the trek up caused problems for the more senior members of my family. We had a very quiet relaxing holiday ( read six books), did feel bit isolated but all enjoyed it. Wouldn't go back to this resort though, nothing there just group of Sunrise hotels, very few shops , no promenade to walk,

“Super Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2010

Spent Xmas at this hotel and enjoyed our stay very much. The staff were very helpful and friendly although we were only 2 of 4 Brits staying. Food very good, choice excellent but very much the same each day. Had Xmas Gala Buffet which was superb. The only fault was the roast turkey which didn't taste or look like turkey at all but there were lots of other food to choose from. We certainly did not go hungry. We had room 138 which was lovely with fabulous sea views. Again the only fault was no air-con and we were bitten each night as we had to leave the door open. We would go backj again but not in the summer months without air con. Definately reccommend but not for nightlife lovers.
