My husband and I vowed to write about our experience at Desire Resort in Cancun. First of all prior to our trip we researched and read hundreds of write ups and some of the information we read was critical to enjoying our trip to the fullest extent. We were new and curious to the lifestyle orientated resorts and clubs. This was our first one. We did not know what to expect, but wanted to make the best choice (it's not like we can go every week). Also with our lack of experience, we wanted to make sure that we would be comfortable. We weren't quite sure just "what" might be going on! First of all overall our time there was DEVINE overall, however we paid more attention to the write ups that did critique some flaws, being fearful that the perfect write ups were not true so here goes....
We arrived and had purchased airport transfers. Our driver was there with a sign for our names. We went straight to the resort which was only about 15 minutes away. As we arrived our luggage was plucked from our hands and we were told not to worry about it. As we are signing in and getting information about the restaurants and what not, someone appeared from no where with a fresh glass of champagne. We were then taken to our room...IMPORTANT, we read prior from another guest's write up to try to get an upstairs room if you have opted for a "beach front", this was great information. We had a lovely balcony and privacy. There are only 4 rooms upstairs so you are shielded from the noise of people passing by to the beach and the beach beds don't block your view. Also I would suggest looking up the map of the hotel and choosing a building closest to your preferences. We aren't really pool people so we chose a building away from that area. Another thing, they don't reserve specific rooms and the check in time is 3 so if you are able to structure your flight to arriving around that time you have a better chance of picking your room. Rooms were adequate, I don't care about decor so much as I wish that the bed was better quality. The room had a decent shower. Note: The C on faucets in Mexico is Caliente, not cold.
Be prepared, there are naked people. We were a little taken back to see naked people just sitting and having a conversation. In fact, we had resolved that even though we are OK with naked people, we most likely would not be brave enough to partake.....so much for that. The Jacuzzi bar opens in the afternoon so we grabbed a drink and went to check it out. I was topless and hubby was nude within 30 minutes of arriving. In the afternoons there are alot of people in the Jacuzzi and it gets pretty crowded from there on out, but the breeze is really nice there and there are nice lounge chairs and the beds, which are really cool if you feel the tub is too full.
Everyone we met was extremely nice and really close, great couples. No one has any problems making friends. The couples are not being nice or suggestive about "getting together". It's just the spirit of the place. There is a huge range of body styles which makes it really easy to let go of your inhibitions about being nude. There is a range of ages there from a few young (maybe mid twentys to early 30's) but most being in the late 30's to 50's (hard to say exactly what the ages are). Ironically being nude made me feel more confident about the flaws I felt I had with my body. As a rule, no one is staring at you or making you feel uncomfortable. The Jacuzzi is wild but not shockingly wild and really sets the erotic atmosphere. There are a range of lifestyle types with the majority being really stable, loving, secure couples. You hardly ever saw a couple that was apart from each other. We choose Desire because it is strictly couples only, I believe that is important, or at least it was for the purpose we chose to be there. Note: if you are not used to having unlimited drinks and it being OK to start having drinks early afternoon...pace yourself....
Another guest had written that they were disappointed that people were tipping when tipping was supposed to be included. I believe the resort had corrected that because there was no tipping, nor did an employee act as if they expected it.
Another guest wrote that the drinks were weak and alcohol was poor quality. That has also been corrected. I will note that in Mexico Bacardi is cheap so if you are ordering a rum drink, or scotch, it is poured pretty freely. Again, beware!
We went back to our room and got dressed for dinner. As we walked out, guests in the neighboring room asked us to join them and it was really nice to get to meet people over dinner (we don't get that a lot in our life). People are extremely nice and fun and outgoing there, without ever making you feel you are being hit on. I believe that most of the couples are not just ready to jump in bed with any and everybody, and they would want to talk and get to know you first.
Food: The food is really not that good. It's nice having the restaurants, everyone dresses for dinner and the service is great. We liked Suku best and after the first night ate there every evening. For breakfast I suggest paying the 5 room service fee and having it brought to you to order, otherwise breakfast is that kind of strange buffet. We did take another guest's advice and brought a bottle for our room (they are expensive at the resort) for when we just wanted to have a drink without venturing to the bar. We bought bug spray but did not have any problems with mosquitoes, I'd bring some just in case. We brought a flashlight which was helpful if you want to go to the beach at night. Next time we are bringing some snacks to munch on in the room.
The gift shop has some sexy clothing and what nots that are worthy of checking out.
Staff was great as a whole. We did have an issue one late evening when we felt uncomfortable with a night security agent. We told the resort and did not see him again during our stay.
Pay attention to the theme nights if you want to participate. I did not one night and it was lingerie night, most of the women wore it to the disco that evening, I had brought a ton of it and did not know that that was the theme for the evening.
We never found the couples room? I don't know if they eliminated it. We forgot to ask, we had just searched for it to check it out.
If you are new like us, I would suggest booking during a slower time and not when a seasoned swinging club/group is there. There were a few of those types there and it wasn't our cup of tea, but again, no one was pushy to us or made us feel we had to be a part of any group. We didn't swing on this trip, I think that we were waiting for some one to approach us and then see what we wanted to do, but no one will do that there. Like I said, it's not a bunch of sex crazed perverts and most likely they want to talk and get to know you before anything like that happens. We did not go with that expectation, we were just open to the possibility.
All and all we accomplished what we hoped. We had a totally erotic, romantic, relaxing time together and are definitely closer than ever. With exceptions to the beds and food, the resort lived up to everything it promised and then some. In fact, I tend to overlook those two flaws because everything else was so wonderful. We are definitely going back. Next time we are probably going to go with the less expensive room so we can justify going more often.
Room Tip: Choose upstairs rooms for beach view.
