“Excellent in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

My husband and I visited this hotel with two friends for one week in August and had an absolutely wonderful time. We were greeted with a welcome drink after arrival and every day started with a lovely breakfast (great cappuccino, fresh fruit salad, a chocolate cake to die for and all kinds of sweet and savory food to enjoy) on the hotels beautiful terrace. Our room had everything we needed and a spacious and always spotless bathroom. We used the handy free wireless internet and to go to the beach the hotel even provided free sun loungers. It was also very convenient to have a free off-road car park where we always found a free spot.

Since it is a small hotel it never felt crowded although we went there during peak season. Enrica and Franco always took immediately care of any requests and had great advise on where to go and what to do in the Lago di Garda area.

That brings me to the best feature of hotel Marina: its hosts and the staff. When you stay here you will adapt their super friendly and kind attitude that makes you feel like home. It is impossible to be in a bad mood with hosts like that =). You can feel that they love what they are doing and are absolutely devoted to taking care of their guests. The personal service is better than in a lot of four or five star hotels and we would go there again in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: The hotel is located on the main road at Lago di Garda. Decide if you prefer a quiet room or lake vi...

“A truly traditional family-run hotel - great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

Ideal for our holiday it exceeded my expectations for a 3 star hotel. Generous and varied breakfast with no mean little sachets in sight. Everyone was friendly and extremely welcoming and helpful. The location faces a road which is noisy from the lake view rooms from early in the morning but the afternoon siesta compensates for any early morning disturbance. There is a quiet little park opposite offering shady olive groves when the sun is too hot (and a cheap bar/cafe too) and a stroll through or alongside this to the lakeside (2 minutes in total) is pleasant and straightforward. The optional dinner (at a local restaurant) is also very good value but there are plenty of other local restaurants for a range of styles and budgets too. We really enjoyed our week.

“The most charming atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

Both the owners and the staff were very friendly and did their best to make us feel like home. Our nice room had a balcony facing to the backyard of the hotel with a view to the hills. This was ok, because hotel is located along a street. Hotel is only few minutes walk from the lake Garda and the center of the charming village and restaurants. We liked best the atmosphere of this little hotel. The breakfast was very good with fresh fruits, youghurt, eggs and bacon etc. The owners gave us good tips about acitivities in the village and lake Garda.

“Nice owners, but this hotel has major problems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2011

We stayed here for four nights hoping it would be a relaxing first trip to Lake Garda, but it was not and previous reviews for this hotel miss some key points. The hotel's website is also misleading. We paid 100 euros a night and are on a driving tour of Italy, so I know what to expect for that amount. I should note that despite asking, we weren't allowed to leave after our first unpleasant night because of their cancellation policy.
Yes, to their credit the owners are very polite and friendly, and the rooms have four walls and a door. There is also (cramped) off-road parking and free wifi access. Free wifi is limited to one login per room though, so if you brought both a smartphone and a laptop then only one can have access.
There was also a buffet breakfast and my wife loved the chocolate cake. I found the food to be ok and a bit bland. The bacon was very gristly and pastries were hard.
All the other points about this hotel are sadly negative. Firstly, while they advertise that all the rooms have air-con, this is centrally controlled by the hotel and (they say) only turned on when it's really hot. Well, everyday it was above 30 degrees and they still refused to turn on the air-con... it got really hot in the room.
To make this worse the hotel is situated right on the main arterial road around Lake Garda, and it was really busy all day and through the night. And of course this is Italy so that includes whining scooters and beeping horns all the time. So we couldn't open the balcony doors at night to cool down because of all the noise. There was also no mosquito net to save us getting eaten. So to stay cool I had to soak towels in cold water and sleep on them... ridiculous.
Even with the doors closed there was a lot of noise coming through from the road and lots of noise from the rooms around us, the internal stairs, and the shop next door. I don't think the hotel has any soundproofing at all. I live in East London so I'm used to urban noise, but this was ridiculous.
To sum up; it was hot and noisy noisy so we hardly slept, and they wouldn't let us leave. This hotel ruined Lake Garda for me and too much there stank of cost cutting.
Oh and the shower leaked in two places so the bathroom floor flooded each time... classy.

We were quite surprised to read your review that complained about every single thing.
You didn't save anything or just a very few things but, fortunately, you are the only one!
For this reason we would like to answer to you also because we are sure you are expecting it and it is kind from us to do it!
First of all we want to inform you that it is against our interest, and it is almost a nonsense, to make bed surprises to our guests!
Through our website, if you look/read it with attention, we show the exact location of the Hotel (click – welcome – location – where we are) but also we describes the fact that we offer 1 free password each room (valid for every day of the guest stay) (click – welcome – prices)
and also that the air conditioning is working from July to September (click – welcome – prices).
I'm sorry but the air conditioned was not working. not because it is June but because it was not warm enough.
In those days, for instance, the air conditioner is automatically working, also if it is not July, as the temperatures increased a lot. I can assure you that we are one of the few hotels with air conditioning working in this moment!
About the second password, why you forgot to ask it to me? If you did it, you would know that it would cost you only 5 € for the whole period of your stay and not per day of course!!!!
For 100 € per day you have had not only 4 walls and a door but a spacious and clean room with flowered balcony, minibar, LCD TV, hair dryer, good and various and rich breakfast buffet (croissants, eggs, fruit salad etc. etc. are produced or cooked fresh every day!), a car park closed at night, 1 password for Internet, use of our fitness, sauna and sun beds for the beach and much more. I do not think we can call this "4 walls and 1 door for 100 €" !!!!!!
Let me remind also to you that your reservation was for a back room (mountain view) without balcony. On your arrival we thought to be kindly to you to propose you to choose between your reserved room or a balcony room.
You sow both rooms! Your free choice was for the balcony room. It was impossible not to see the main road, isn’t it? Having the 2 choices, way you didn’t keep your room on the mountain side, more quite and also less expensive because without balcony??? I do not think we obliged you to take the balcony room, or maybe yes? It was absolutely you choice!
About the mosquitoes we have had no complains from the guests till now because, in this area, there are not. Sorry!!!!
As you sow, I stay till midnight at the front desk with doors open and light on but I never seen one.
I really think it is only ridiculous you complain about things like that!
You said to me you wanted to leave a day before your schedule departure and not after one night stay as you wrote on your review. But, anyway, it was not a problem as I told you whrn you were here.
You were more than free to leave earlier but you had to pay 1 night. We didn’t create the cancellation policy for ourselves like it seems to be, reading your review. Everything was clearly written down on your reservation. Nothing was hidden to you ! Why you did not read your booking confirmation carefully? All teh hotels around the world have a cancellation policy: you must know that and you know I say the right!.
Traveling around the world it happened to us to paid 3 nights penalty because we leaved early than scheduled! It is just normal also if not pleasant of course
About the inconvenient of the shower in your room, I think you should tell this problem immediately to the front desk when you were here instead to let us know this on your review. If you were so kind to inform us immediately like all the other guests do, I can assure you we would control it as soon as possible to avoid causing problems to our guests.
Anyway, after your review claims, we controlled the shower and there was nothing at all. The room 30 is now occupied and, to be sure, I ask to the guest living there now! No inconvenients and no complains!
I'm sure that my answer is complete.
Sincerely I invite you to look on our website as indicated above to realize that nothing is hidden on our website. I repeat... it is a nonsense!!!!
Of course we are not perfect, this is unfortunately impossible, but we try to do every single day all our best to make the stay of our guests as enjoyable as possible. I'm sorry to inform your that your review is misleading of the truth, and this is not fair to us. Like I told you before, you are the only one who has had “problems”!!!! Sorry for my bed English but I am sure your will unsserstand. Kind regards Enrica and Franco Casarotti

“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2011

We just happened to chance this hotel on our last day in Italy after a month's travelling ....and what a find! Enrica and Franco were so helpful and genuinely interested in being of service. We had a room on the 1st floor which was absolutely spotless and the breakfast was one of the best we have had. Unfortunately we only had one night at this little gem of a hotel and would thoroughly recommend it for a stay in Torri del Benaco which incidentely is a beautiful little town.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back and absolutely no noise.
