LOCATION:
It's on a major, but quiet road back from the beach - within jogging distance if you like that. It's in a quiet, low-level residential area that's quite convenient. The location is about 5-10 minutes south of the main Surfers Paradise beach, but north of Nobby's beach, Miami and Burleigh Heads.
A small restaurant block is opposite the hotel, a Dan Murphys liquor outlet is right beside it, and a larger shopping centre is 5 minutes up Markeri St. The hotel also runs a free shuttle service to major destinations throughout the day, which is a good addition.
Temperatures in mid-July were in the low 20s (21-23) so good weather for getting around, though not so warm in the water.
FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE:
The staff there were efficient, and constantly available. Everything was organised smoothly, and a lounge area is situated beside the desk if you need to wait for a shuttle/someone else.
Staff were all pleasant to deal with.
ROOMS:
The rooms are motel standard (see picture) over three levels, either facing the parking on the outer perimeter of the hotel, or the internal pool/lounge area. While not tall, the hotel is fairly spread out, with lifts and stairs at the end of a corridor, then rooms spread out from that hub.
As shown, for the two beds one was made as a king bed (but made of two joined together so has the split in the middle), and one was a fold-out, which is inferior to those they picture. A nice LCD television with some cable channels was well placed. There was also a desk, a chair, bar fridge, bedside tables and a cupboard with iron.
The bathroom had a shower and bath, plus vanity and toilet. The shower head was an adequate height, though old and leaked backwards, and not a water saver type so didn't spray well. Toiletries including nice soap, shampoo, conditioner and moisturiser were provided.
Oddly, a welcome letter mentioned that you could save changing the bed linen by leaving a card from the bedside table on the pillow, yet no card was provided.
AMENITIES:
The outdoor swimming pool was not heated so not ready to be used. It had a small rock waterfall feature, and the surrounding gardens were nice when weather was good.
Free parking was included in a secure area on the outside of the building.
DINING: A restaurant with dining room was attached, with a bar and other facilities. It's somewhat like the local pub with much parking out the front, and turned out to be booked out the first night we were there. I guess there's always room service!
On check-in the staff offered a breakfast deal if you paid on the spot at $25/person/day. Regular breakfast will cost $32/person/day, so fairly pricey. Not a lot of commercial alternatives nearby, but you could wait until you get to Surfers or wherever you're going if you want something else.
OVERALL:
A pleasant experience, with fairly nice facilities, though the shower head and mix-up with the washing notice suggest it could do more for the environment. There are better located places if you just want somewhere convenient for a quick trip to Surfer's but if you've been before and want somewhere quieter yet still convenient, it's still worthwhile considering.
