“Peaceful and pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed at Royal Woods recently for 5 nights. The resort is a like a gated community with electronic gates to exit/enter through, giving some extra security. The accomodation is in villa units of varying size. We rented a two bedroom unit comprising (1 double with spa bath ensuite and 1 twin single), general bathroom, kitchen and lounge area. Outside is a lovely balcony with a small table and two chairs. This met our needs very well being a couple travelling with kids age 17 and 9. The kitchen has a microwave, oven, hotplates, toaster, kettle etc. and a full size fridge. Dining table and chairs for four and two double sofas in the lounge with TV and DVD. The unit is fairly sparse in terms of decoration but that's ok. There is a double garage
downstairs which contains the washing machine and dryer, which you would share if there were occupants in the other part of the villa (as the villa seems to have been divided into two). Fortunately for us, the rear part of the villa was unoccupied. Had I known this was the
configuration, I probably would not have booked this accommodtion, as I imagine it could be quite noisy and I wouldn't fancy having to co-ordinate use of the laundry facilities with another family. The villa was clean and the complex is quiet. The pool is great and we used the heated indoor pool every day as it happened to rain every day of our stay. Torrential at times. So much so that on the last day, the sewerage overflowed into the garage which was not nice. We
had to tip toe over scraps of toilet paper and other things I won't mention. The pool area is excellent and includes two heated spas, a waterfall, indoor heated pool, sauna room and
games room with billiard table and jukebox. The gym was being refurbished but I didn't use it or look at it. The complex is in a quiet area with some restaurants/shopping centres nearby.
Surfers Paradise is about a 10 minute drive so you would certainly need a car if you stayed here. I was very frustrated by the electronic entry gates which I couldn't get to work at all. I had
to get out of the car with the remote and it still wouldn't work! (we came in via the exit gate, when someone drove out, so not that great security wise!). We don't like the high rise
apartments of Surfers Paradise so this was very good for us. However, I would have to be guaranteed that I had the villa to myself, before I would decide to stay here again.

“A calm and comfortable stay”

This resort is a safe and quiet place. The staffs at the reception were warm and friendly. They showed us our villa. Our family (I, my hubby and my two little girls) stayed in a two bedroom suite. The rooms were spacious, clean and had nice soft beds. There were amenities like microwave, washer, oven, air condition, drier, etc. There were some shopping centers and restaurants in the nearby area. There is a nice pool at the resort. We stayed here for two days and it was a calm and comfortable. We don’t mind staying here again. We would recommend it to anyone.

“Biggest Dump in Queensland - do NOT stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

This place was an absolute nightmare. There was rubbish bag at the front door. Numerous pubes in the shower, and the entire apartment smelt like mouldy, rotton onions.
The swimming pool had a huge crack along the bottom which needed repairing. This caused the pool to be subsequently closed for the time we were there.
The air-conditioning / heating did not work in the room and with no overnight on-site Manager we had no response to our phone calls to reception.
We had booked a deal that was suppose to include breakfast. This consisted of two pieces of stale bread and a mini box of corn flakes delivered to the room the night before.
Awful, Awful, Awful.
When we complained in the morning, the on site receptionist couldn't have cared less and refused to give us the Manager / Owner's contact details.

very quiet resort, but service was shocking... when we arrived, soap dispenser was empty, light bulb was broken and battery in remote for the iron gates was flat & the pools were dirty.
when we addressed our concerns to the receptionist the manager didnt have the courtesy to come out and speak to us. very disappointed.

“Peaceful, but ......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2010

Stayed in a one bedroom suite. Decent size, reasonably well equiped. Had a washer, drier, but no dishwasher. The cooking facilities weren't great, 2 ring hob, very small oven, microwave, so if you a planning on eating meals at your suite might not be ideal. As you would expect had aircon.

The villa was divided into 2 one bedroom suite, connected by a hallway. Whilst we were there no-one was in the adjoining suite, but i was concerned that the noise would be easily audible, so was very relieved.

This is a gated compex about 9kms outside of Surfers Paradise. So felt very safe, but was a trek to the beaches, main area. There are a couple of small shopping centres close by for groceries, restaurants a bit further away.

Pool was very nice, great for families. There were a couple of gas BBQs in the pool area for use.

Reception staff were great - we arrived earlier than we expected, fortunately our Villa was already cleaned, so they showed us straight in.

Make sure you have a good set of directions before you set out - this place is tucked away, off the main road and maybe hard to find if you haven't planned it well (or have a GPS).
