“Nice hotel, but better don´t go with children”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2010

The hotel is quite nice. It is situated just in front of the sea, far from the hustle and bustle of the main street with the night clubs. The hotel itself and it´s territory are very clean. All the floors are from glazed tile, so it creat a lot of noise. And if we didn´t hear our neighbours from the adjorning rooms we heard everything that was done above our room (someone walking on highheeled shoes, moving a chair etc.) Also the doors of all the rooms of all the floors look on the same huge "corridor", staying at your room you can hear when every door is shut, and the empty space of this "corridor" only reinforces the sound.
I didn´t like the lack of facilities for children, no playground, no gameroom. It´s difficult to move with a pram, because inside you have lifts, but outside nothing that would help you get over the stairs.
The food was good and the dishes various.
The best thing about this hotel is it´s stuff. Everybody are very pleasant, helpful, talkative (in the good sense of the word).
The worst thing is the place where Astir Palace is situated. I mean the village of Laganas itself. It´s too touristic. Nothing authentic. You can easily find mexican, australian, british cuisine, but it´s quite problematic to taste something greek. Or maybe we just went to wrong restaurants. But there are no locals living there, so the same place you could find, say, in Egypt or Turkey.
But if you need the sun and the sea, than all this authentic thing is not very important

“A well run hotel in an excellent location”

We chose to stay in the Astir Palace, along with friends as we were attending our daughters wedding on nearby Cameo Island and wanted a good standard of accommodation to enhance this special occassion.
Having read previous recent reviews on this 'Olympic Holiday 4 flame' hotel we felt compelled to write this brief review from our own exprience.
The staff were very friendly and helpful when needed.
We stayed in a side sea view room which was cleaned daily, including clean towels and bedding.
The room was spacious and there were complimentary toiletries in the bathroom.
The low level hand shower was typical of Greece and with very good water pressure.
In our opinion, the breakfast was very good value with a varied selection of English and Continental choices. These were readily replenished between 8.00am and 10.00am so there was little need to rush to the dining room each morning.
Yes, there had to be a small down side, but one that you are made aware of during the selection of this hotel and that is that guests staying at the hotel are charged for the use of sunbeds around the pool.

“Disappointing!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

My daughter aged 18 has just returned from a weeks holiday with her girlfriends. They had decided to book a 4 star hotel on halfboard basis rather than an apartment so they could manage their money better and although they were there to party wanted a decent hotel in a good location rather than a party palace. They were soooooooooooo dissappointed. When they arrived, after a night flight, very tired, they were given keys to their rooms which were in the basement!. They opened the door onto what they expected to be their balcony only to see a brick wall facing them and no balcony. There are no showers just a bath with a shower head attached. They immediatley asked to be moveed but were told the hotel was fully booked. However when the receptionist overheard my daughter talking to her tour rep amazingly a room was available for them to move to the next day. This room was much nicer, brighter, bigger and had a balcony, however still the same issue with the shower.
The food at the hotel was also very dissappointing, apart from the pasta ,which was just edible they all said the food was not very good and that there were many places on the strip that were serving very good food at very reasonable prices. Therefore next visit they will be opting for self catering.
On a positive note the hotel was in a very good location right on the beach and only approximately 10 minutes walk to the strip, also very quiet and relaxing during the day. .
Overall they had a fantastic holiday but would not recommend or return to this hotel as they didn't feel they got value for money.

“Astir The Pitt Palace”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2010

We were due to stay at the Astir Beach which is a 3* but 2 weeks before our departure we were informed that we would be upgraded "what a result" springs to mind. To a 4* "wow even better " a dream girly holiday has come true!!
Once arrived in reception i could see that this was not a 4* hotel at all!! I always stay in 4* all over the world. The whole hotel is very dated and the rooms were very very basic. I would rate this in between a 2 - 3* accommodation.
the layout of the hotel rooms in the main block reminded me of the inside of a prison i have watched on 'banged up'
The breakfast was like rubber plastic food. Nothing was cooked fresh in front of you by a chef. If you didn't get down and get your eggs at 8am when it opened don't expect a runny one!! Oh and the bread wasn't fresh!
Also mouldy cheese was served at lunch and not the stilton kind!!
but the lunch was very nice and far too much of it
The towels were not cleaned everyday so we complained. The new towels they gave us were so old, soiled and grey and the comment from the receptionist was " it must be the laundry" No chuck them out and replace them is the right option.
The shower was hand held and attached down on the wall in the bath so low only a small a baby could get its head under it.
no beach towels were provided shocked considering this was a 4*
No padded sun lounger cushions either
The waitress in the dining room was also the bar attendant. As you can imagine being all inclusive provided a bit of a problem when she was supposed to be in 2 places at once!! I was planning on having a massage that was adverstised on the reception desk but I thought I'd give this poor woman break I'm sure that was her role too!!
The selection of food from the pool bar and drinks from the main bar for all inclusive were limited. If you like mabliu like my sister does then DO NOT go to to this hotel all inclusive cos you won't get it. The rose was drinkable
The evening meals improved as the week went on still no chef for all to see.
we were not aware that Zante only gets lively middle/late June so the first few days the hotel felt like a ghost town with some tumble weed rolling through
No english at the hotel what so ever
So I was throughly disappointed this was supposed to be a nice plush hotel but we did have a good laff about it.
4* ……….yeah my A4se!!!
the pool area looks like it needs updating
One good point the rooms were cleaned everyday.
and a great location from all the bars and restaurant of the lively resort.
And we didn't starve to death!

“The perfect hotel for a holiday in Zakinthos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2009

It was our first time in Greece, first time in Zakinthos and certainly not the last.
The island is amazing, a mixture of wildness and nice locations, the people are very hospitable and many possibilities to spend the time.
The hotel we stayed in, Astir Palace proved to be an excellent choice. The location is not really 4 stars, but the cleanliness, the location (on the beach, in a relatively quiet zone) and the services were excellent and compensated for all the small inconvenient (no hair drier in the room- for example).
The staff of the hotel is very nice, always smiling and helped us any time we needed, even with recommendations about what to do on the island.
The sea view rooms (charged extra) are very spacious, while the others are normal, with generous bathroom and terrace.
In September, the hotel was mostly occupied by rich old people, so that the location was very quiet and we could have a rest any time we wanted.
I sincerely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to go to Zakinthos and have a great relaxing holiday.
