Me and my girlfriend (40 something) had a great time in Kamari. Its a simple place to stay but we had a good time. Villa Nikos is not really a hotel. Its a house with 9 rooms. The ovners lives in the basement.
There is no bar, no pool, no reception but who needs that. This you get at Dimitris which is the hotel/restaurant next door. You are very welcome to swim, eat and take a drink at his place.. The sunbeds beside the pool is free to use also for Nikos guests.
We stayed at room 1. Probably the smallest room of all, but we did fine. The balcony was small and was beside the entrance. We appreciated the fact that it always were shadow. We could have breakfast and afternoon bear there without beeing burnt. It also had a double bed which we wanted. This varies from room to room.
At arrival Daniella (the host) delivers keys to the guest. If you want double bed and a large nice room take room 7. (we visited it)
Location is some minutes walk from the beach and the city beachfront. 3 minutes to tne beach and 7 minutes to city. This means you live in peaceful surroundings.
If you walk straight down from the hotel you will get free sunbeds. The hotel down there never took cash for the beds. We spent every day down there without paying a cent. Bring beachshoes. The pebbles on the beach are HOT.
Elsewhere on the beach you payed 7 Euro for 2 beds and an umbrella.
The airport was very close to Kamari and flights came in over the beach but this was just fun to watch. 5-10 flights per day you can manage.
The beachfront on Kamari was a really pleasant aquaintance in the evening. Ambient atmosphere, nice warm lighting and no battle between the places in playing the loudest music. No cars or motorcycles. The restaurants didnt try to pull you in by the hair. When you choose to get in you will get Ok food without beeing amazed. It really was nice to walk along the beach and sit down for a neal or a drink.
If you want party and nightlife this is NOT the place.
The island isnt big. I guess about 50 km long and apprx. 20 km wide. The big business here was to rent out motorvehicles. Scooters, motorbikes, quadbikes and cars could be rented at every second corner. Prices was from 10 euro a day for the smallest scooters to 15-20 for larger bikes.
Easy to get around if you want. Driving culture is quite civilised.
You must of course visit Fira and Oya at the sunset side of the island.
From Kamari centre you can book different trips. Try the Sunset trip with boat including meal.
We had a good relaxing romantic time at Santorini. You really felt the everyday stress disappear.
