“Excellent value for money for families”

La Grande Broadbeach lived up to what it advertises . Low rise , excellent value for money for families holiday apartments. Total non smoking premises and recently renovated. Plenty of space, sea views and although there is a building going up next door it was still surprisingly quiet most of the time. Our 3 bedroom apartment had a massive balcony looking directly into the sea/ Very close walking distance to every where you need or want to go to eat or shop. Families wanting space this is the best available for price and standards in Broadbeach. Managers are on site and extremely helpful if required.

“Brilliant location”

Spacious well appointed apartment with everything needed for a self contained holiday. Was a bit difficult getting around the place, a bit like Fort Knox with all the keys needed, but also reassuring that it was secure. we had a beach front apartment, was quiet but the beds were a little small and could have been alot comfier. The rest of the apartment was more than adequate if a little tired looking. Nice pool and spa, a couple of minutes walk into the Broadbeach shops and restaurants, not far to a main bus route, everything was so close. Great kids park over the road and great tracks for walking.
Parking building a bit of a nightmare to navigate. Very confined space.
The no internet was a major downside, how does an apartment complex in a large bustling tourist mecca NOT have internet?????

“Suited us perfectly.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2009

We stayed here during February/March 2009, in a 3 bedroomed garden view apartment. Four adults and two children. We had a lovely time here, the apartment was kept very well, clean, tidy the apartment was serviced once a week, but anything you wanted in the mean time was dealt with very efficiently. The furniture was all fairly modern, enough sofa seats and dining seating for us all. The kitchen was small but functional, and had everything we needed. There were two balconies, and both had table and chairs. There were two double beds and two singles, which again suited our requirements - I had mentioned this when we booked, and they were able to accommodate us accordingly. As we were on the first floor we didnt have any need for the lift. Our apartment was facing the road, which didnt prove a problem, although when the bins were taken from the underground garage to the road (twice a week) at 7am we did tend to hear this, but it had to be done. The gardens around the apartments were looked after regularly, and looked lovely. The staff were always very friendly and helpful, and were able to delay our check out time as we had a late flight from Brisbane. Being a lowrise property made it feel more like we were still within the real world, (if you get my meaning), I think I would prefer a property like this rather than one of the many high rise apartment blocks in and around the area. The pool area was clean and tidy, and rarely busy at the time of year we went. Although the spa area left alot to be desired, you dont expect to walk through to the back of the underground car park to reach it ... but it wasnt used by many so again it was quiet. But would be nice if they used an area around the pool for a spa pool. We didnt use the gym. The apartment was located just across the road from the beautiful beach, and only a short 5 minute walk into Broadbeach. One thing we found very useful was that we could go into Woolworths in the mall in Broadbeach and bring our shopping back in the trolley, then leave the trolley at the front of the apartments and every day someone from Woolworths would come along and collect them, this was some kind of agreement with them, that was useful. I felt that the apartment was situated in a perfect spot, for a relaxing holiday with everything within close reach. Would I change anything about it ??? I think only the spa pool, we would certainly return here and stay in these apartments again. There were plenty of little gecko type creatures to be found around here in the evening, and we also saw the large fruit bats from time to time, also the lorikeets were very apparent in front of the apartment, as there are alot of trees to the front. All in all we had a lovely time here as did my children, and if they are happy then so am I. I have posted some pics on here, but did them seperately to this review.

“You get what you pay for at La Grande”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2009

Stayed for 11 nights March/April 2009. Best thing going for this place is the location. It is right across the street from the beach, very near parklands and an easy 5 minute walk to the Broadbeach Mall with it's great eating and shopping areas.

The pool area is nice enough. Pool is maybe a bit on the small side but it was not busy when we stayed. Was not heated but didn't feel that cold at this time of the year. BBQs were good. Didn't go in the gym so can't comment. Don't bother with the spa/sauna though as it is downstairs in the underground carpark(very unappealing!)

Gardens are well kept and very lush with lots of lights at night for the pathways etc.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom garden view room which was on the 3rd level. There were lifts albeit very slow (so slow that most of the time we chose to use the stairs). The furniture ranged from being quite good in the main loungeroom to very dated in the bedrooms. Beds were comfortable. Only one TV in the apartment and it was an old CRT screen but was good enough and included Foxtel.

Kitchen was quite small and not well laid out (ie had to close all the cupboards to open the dishwasher). Didn't help that there were 2 microwaves (one was broken but left in the room) so bench space was non existent. There was barely enough crockery to cover the six people staying there and all the knives were extremely blunt (so much so that we went out and bought a new knife!)

The bathrooms were small but reasonably well kept. Nice hot showers but the main bathroom shower doubled as a bath so it had a huge step up to get in (not very good for elderly people). Some mould was visible in the ensuite bathroom.

There was a lack of cleaning products and utensils in the apartment. Apart from a broom we had nothing to clean with (ie dustpan and brush etc.) As we stayed for over a week the apartment was serviced but we had to remind the staff to do so.

Another gripe was that none of the windows had flyscreens and although they all seemed to have key locks, none of the locking mechanisms worked. You also could not lock the front door from the inside. Apparently this is a fire requirement but with small children we were worried that they would go walkabout. So we had to barricade the front door every night before we went to bed!

We were allocated an underground secure car park but did not use it as it was between two huge concrete pillars with an airconditioning duct running behind it and would only have been any good for a small car. There was plenty of on street parking out the front though.

We did not see a lot of the staff there but when we did interact with them they were friendly and attentive. We only had three outdoor chairs on the balcony so when we asked for more they arrived the same day. I got the feeling however from overhearing some conversations that the current Managers were finishing up around Easter time.

There is a new high rise complex that is due to start being built right in front/next door to the complex. This was apparently supposed to start at the beginning of the year but at the moment it is still a huge empty block. When this is built it will severely restrict the views in some apartments.

Overall we were satisfied (just) with the accommodation. There are a lot of much nicer looking places to stay in the Broadbeach area but when we compared costs we would have to pay around 50% more for them. Having said that I don’t think we would stay at La Grande again. I would pay the extra and stay in a much newer complex with nicer furniture etc.

“Unbeatable location”

We stayed here for a week with 2 teenagers and wow was i pleasantly surprised. I had read other reviews, both good and bad, and checked in with an open mind. Our 2 bedroom apartment was HUGE (and we travel a lot- have experienced the good, the bad and the very ugly!), The sofas were massive and extremely comfy-no cane furniture in sight! We had an upper level, ocean view apartment and i could not fault the view, balcony or apartment layout. 2 bathrooms is a must when u have 2 teenage girls! I was very happy with the lift too, no struggling with bags up stairs. If i was being very picky, i would note the following - the windows and glass sliding doors leading onto the balcony could do with a clean. There was a very large step up into the ensuite shower/bath - did not worry us at all, but would advise that an elderly/disabled person or someone with limited mobility would find this very difficult. Yes the pool is small compared to other places, but we were there out of school hols and 99% of the time were the only ones in it, however i can see that in peak times it would be very crowded. The location is brilliant and i loved the ceiling fans in every room. I am not a fan of slat beds and ours wasnt the best ive ever slept in, but as i said i am being picky. I thought overall this property was great value for money and i would definately stay here again.......beware though that each apartment is individually owned and furnished, and what is fantastic for some may disappoint others. We will be requesting the same apartment next time, just to be sure!
