“Great location, but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2010

We have stayed at the Victoria Square Apartments twice now, once with children and once without. In general, the apartments are relatively well maintained and comfortable, however they are a little tired and could do with a bit of a makeover.

The location is fantastic, right in the heart of Broadbeach, opposite the Oasis Shopping Centre with easy access to the monorail linking Jupiters Casino (if that is your thing) or the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Many of the rooms have ocean and beach views and there are restaurants aplenty surrounding it, so you are spoiled for choice there.

The fantastic location does come with drawbacks though in terms of noise. There are a few bars and nightclubs below the apartments, which means on the weekend, it can get a bit rowdy. Suggest you go for an apartment higher up (10th floor or above) and / or an apartment facing Surfers Paradise if noise will bother you and you are staying on the weekend.

If you have 5 star taste but a 3 star budget, you would be fairly happy with the accommodation at the Victoria Square Apartments as the views from the Ocean facing rooms make you overlook the tired decor of the apartments themselves.

We will most likely stay here again, as the location, views and comfort of the apartments combined make them good value.

“Was disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2010

I start this review by saying that I generally really enjoy staying at Victoria Square Apartments. We always check for vacancies in this building first, before looking anywhere else. As all the apartments are different, it's very hard to give a balanced review, but I must say that this time I was very disappointed in the apartment we were given.
I chose a three-bedroom so that my mother and I could have a queen bed each, rather than one of us having to sleep in a single. The first hurdle was the car park. Management were kind enough to supply us with the code and unit number first, so that I could drive through the security gates and park prior to checking in. Problem was, our particular apartment didn't have a number on the parking space. The spaces are set in a random order, so it was impossible to guess it's location. I had to end up calling from the car park and the gentleman who answered treated me like I was a bit of a moron for not automatically 'knowing' which direction I should go.
Check-in was smooth and relaxed and our unit was spacious and bright. The kitchen was great (although we only used it to boil water and put drinks in the fridge), the dining area was very nice (we ate out every night) and there was a flat screen TV and a nice balcony.
The master bedroom was roomy and it had a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite with a very large shower area. Second bedroom was roomy with mirrored built-in, two single beds, and a TV. The third bedroom (the smallest) had a queen sized bed squished in so that there was hardly any room to walk around. I couldn't understand the logic of putting the larger bed in the smaller room but that was how it was.
The first night my mother had a cold shower because her water wasn't heating. She couldn't use my shower because it was situated over a very high bath and she couldn't manage to step into it. There was no rubber mat provided either to prevent slipping so I found it quite difficult myself.
The next day we asked management to fix the problem and advised that we would need to change apartments if couldn't be repaired because of the height of the other shower. I left my mobile number for them to contact me during the day to advise me if it could be fixed. We didn't receive any call and I had to spend time chasing it up in case we needed to repack and move before our dinner engagement. Thank fully it was repaired and my mother had a warm shower that evening.
Another problem was the modular lounge. It was quite old and in fact a little smelly. The parts weren't connected so that at once stage my mother sat in the wrong spot and it actually came apart and she almost sank to the tiled floor. Quite risky I would say.
The air conditioning was too small for the apartment and the cool air didn't extend to the bedrooms. Luckily the weather was temperate so it didn't bother us too much; the smaller bedroom was a little stuffy by morning though.
My bathroom was pretty ordinary. The bath looked like it needed regrouting as it was black in places. Also the shower was too short and it was impossible at 172 cm for me to stand directly underneath. It had one of those removable heads so I expect I was supposed to hold it higher myself.
Last but not least, the mop in the laundry was disgusting and there was no bucket to use. When I spilt something on the tiles in the kitchen I had to fill the laundry sink and walk between the two places to mop the floor. As I mopped, pieces of orange rubber kept falling off because the mop was so old. It was pretty gross.
All in all, I was a little disappointed and would never again stay in apartment 131 until it was given an upgrade.
I'm going to recommend this hotel because we have generally enjoyed our stays, but I would definitely try to view the room prior to accepting in future.

“Perfect location surrounded by pedestrian mall, restaurants & beach.”

Stayed in room 122 for a weeks holiday with my daughter and her partner. Great north facing view from the apartment, with views of ocean and hinterland from the balcony. The pedestrian mall is right outside the door and a shopping mall is directly opposite, so great for stocking up with provisions. There are about 60 top restaurants within easy walking distance and cuisine to suit all tastes and budgets. My favourite was 'Satin" where on a thursday night you can get Surf and Turf to die for and only $15.00. Outside dining and watching the Astin Martins and Ferraris cruise by is a great night out, right at your doorstep.
The only downside, which is very minor, is that the Garbo empties the bins daily from the streets on this part of the coast very early in the morning and is a bit noisy, but once you are up, it is worth the trip outside to savour the many breakfast deals on offer in the vicinity.
All in all, a great week.
Tips. The bus service is first class and very frequent. Shopper dockets and internet coupons save heaps at restaurants. The poolside BBQ is kept very clean and is easy to use. Entertainment on the mall makes for a very pleasant atmosphere. Bottle shop (BWS) located in shopping centre opposite.

“Great location and facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2009

We travelled to Broadbeach for the weekend of 18-19 Sept for a family function. As the apartments front onto the mall, there is no vehicle drop-off at the front door but it is only a 50 metre walk from the taxi rank. On checking in, we were given a room on the 5th floor but the only view was one of the loading dock of the building next door - a quick call to reception and we were moved to a room on level 16 with a excellent view north, south and west (room 1601) so it pays to speak up.

The unit was large and airy with 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, kitchen and laundry. Both rooms had ceiling fans and there was an aircon in the lounge room. The kitchen has all the usual appliances and the laundry had both a washer and dryer

The outdoor area on level 3 has two pools, spa and sauna plus three electric BBQ's.

One of the best points about these apartments is its location. There are a lot or restaurants within a few minutes walk of the front door (try Max's, out the front door and turn left. They have great $10 lunches everyday) and the Oasis shopping centre on the other side of the mall with a supermarket, coffee shops, bakery etc, so you can get all your provisions. In addition, the beach is only 50 metres away. The Sunday we were there, there was a open air market in the park near the beach but we believe this is held only once a month so you will need to check the times reception.

For those who like a flutter, Jupiters Casino is a short monorail trip from the Oasis Shopping Centre ($2 per person each way) across the road form Jupiters is the Paradise Centre shopping mall which is definitely worth a visit.

The only downside of the apartments location in the noise from the mall on Friday/Saturday nights. Although we were on the 16th floor, we could still hear the music and crowds in the mall and the nightclub next to the apartments until around 3am.

All in all, a good place to stay.

“Terribly Noisy Apartment at night - disinterested managers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2009

We recently stayed at this apartment and were disappointed right from the start. No one had bothered to explain how we enter the place just to check in, as Reception is right on a mall, so you cannot drive in. We drove around and around and finally rang ti find out that you had to drive down to the carpark and get a code to enter, then catch a lift to reception. Upon check in, no attempt was made to help us with luggage - if the one and only trolley was missing you had to make 4 trips down to the carpark and back to get all your bags. On the first night, we realised our mistake in this choice, when we discovered our bedroom was directly above a local nightclub in the mall. No sleep the entire night. We approached the manager the following day, who was totally disinterested in our complaint, even though they knew we had a toddler as well and offered no assistance what so ever!!!!!!!!

We ended up having to move the mattress off the double bed, into the lounge room and then sleep the other 2 nights out in the lounge.

The rest of our holiday was spent with the manager deliberately avoiding us and hiding out the back in his office. Pathetic!

Even one of the hotel owners admitted that they had to get double glazing to prevent the noise as well.

Do not be fooled by the convenience of staying at this hotel - there is a downside, unless you are a party goer and up all night.
