We stayed for 2 nights over a weekend (13/06/08 - 15/06/2008), to escape the terrible weather in Sydney. Clear blue skies and plenty of sun during winter makes an excellent getaway.
First thing that impressed me was the lobby and check-in counter with it large opening and 3 level high ceiling. It looks very contemporary and modern. Four elevators for us to use, however no bell boy showed us to our room or carried our bags. I would rate a very good four star hotel.
Our room 1401 had no view of the beach, it overlooked Conrad Jupiters and the Meriton apartments which are still being built. If you want to stay right at the beach (literally across the road) you will need to find a place on Broadbeach Blvd or Old Burleigh Rd.
Sofitel Broadbeach is walking distance to Conrad Jupiters, Draculas, Pacific Fair, and all the local restaurants and cafes. Next door is Oasis shopping centre. There is also a monorail station on level 2 that takes you to Conrad Jupiters.
We didn't use the pool facilities on level 3, but from what we saw it looked great.
The rooms were again modern and clean. The only things I could fault that the double bed is literally two beds put together and cable/satellite reception on the TV was sometimes bad (but still very viewable).
The bathroom is clean. The shower lotion/shampoo pack, bathrobes, towels, beach towels, provided were of good quality.
We travelled by bus to Surfers Paradise and to the theme parks. The bus stop is less than 150 meters away from the lobby.
We paid $170 a night, and I do believe for this price the Sofitel provided good value for the duration of our stay. We were also given complimentary vouchers for drinks to use at the gaming bar on the ground floor, and $4 gaming credit to spend on the pokies.
Judging by other reviews, our room probably wasn't the best in terms of size or view. But I would recommend the Sofitel to others as we did have a pleasant stay overall.
