As we reached reception on arrival, we were greeted with a friendly welcome from Sara who spoke excellent English and she had a great rapport with the children (girls, age 11 & 6).
Our first impression was how clean the hotel was and how friendly all the staff seem to be. Our room was on the top floor (at our request) with amazing views and was also spotlessly clean. There are NO cockroaches (Trust me & my phobia’s on that!)
Fuerteventura is a Golf resort but this hotel definitely manages to cater well for both Golfers & families. The pool area was immaculate and well presented with beautiful shrubs and flowers. The pool was clean and safe with a lifeguard at all times during our stay. Although we went in December, we still managed to use the pool as the weather was so warm we were grateful to take a dip.
We had no problem with getting a sun bed but that could be the time of year we stayed. The beach is a 2 minute walk and the shops are nearby too. Worth taking a 3 Euro taxi ride to the main beach for extra shopping bargains. Also we noticed nobody pesters you to buy and is really friendly and respectful, which makes you feel at ease when out abroad with children.
The selection of local alcoholic drinks at the hotel was really good compared to other places we have been and they were also generous on the measures! My hubby loved the ‘Pull your own pint’ in the Tucan bar.
Our children found plenty of choice in the restaurant and have discovered a liking for Tuna steak & Veal! It was a great opportunity to try new things and there were plenty of local and international dishes to choose from. There were always 2 or 3 meat choices and plenty of fish too.
My favourite meal was breakfast though, with extensive variety of breads, cheeses, cereals and freshly made pancakes (Heaven!) The chefs cooked every kind of egg fresh in front of you and I can highly recommend the omelettes.
The juices were very syrupy which my 2 children didn’t like too much but bottled water and yummy ‘smoothies’ were available in the morning. We did buy some squash whilst out there but that’s our own personal taste.
We really have to say a massive thank you to the amazing staff, which makes this hotel the place it is. We felt at ease wherever we went with the children and they really make an effort with youngsters.
In the bar the brilliant ‘Muncho & ‘Diego’ to name a few, in the restaurant ‘Judith’ was genuinely thoughtful, humorous and pleasant. And the totally fantastic Hannah in ‘Mini club’ She is an absolute star and we had no problem leaving my youngest with her (normally she wont leave our side!) Hannah works day & night ensuring the children are happy with her boundless energy and warm smiles. My 6 yr old had such an amazing time at the Elba Sara, we had to take pictures of the staff and she actually cried on departure day!
After reading other reviews, I do agree the beds are hard, but after speaking to David the very friendly Manager, he said they were aware of these complaints and do have toppers available and are looking at replacing the beds too. David also made the effort with every one in the hotel. Whenever he saw you he would spend time chatting and joking and encouraging the children with their Spanish. He was very approachable and professional.
We met many couples of various ages who have been here numerous times and I must agree that if we visit Fuerteventura again, this would be our first choice of hotel.
Room Tip: One tip: Try to learn a few basic Spanish phrases – it goes a long way!
