“Hotel value for money, food and restaurant service shocking and understaffed.”

I used this for a work stop over for the second time and to be honnest it hasn't changed from. The first time several months back. I picked here because it appears to be good value for money. The rooms are clean, spacious and acceptable. Also worth noting the two most important things in relation to the rooms, the shower was good and the bed was comfy. The negative was the tv was poor, with intermittent signal and channels that didn't stay on channel.

The attached restaurant, if you can call it that, is fairly busy most of the time selling over priced, microwave cooked food. It doesn't look like it does on the picture. The staff are friendly but there are not enough of them. I ordered salmon and broccoli fish cakes to start and fish pie for mains. The fish cakes were over microwaved and contained vast amounts of broccoli. The mains contained copious amounts of potatoe mash and I had to search for the fish. The menu states "with steamed vegatables". Not likely. This was not, in my opinion, worth £8.15, sorry. Needless to say I didn't stop for desert, I got another drink and headed for my room. Breakfast was better quality however, this time I had two colleagues join me, for which I paid an additional £14 for, and we waited for over half an hour for our tea and coffee then another five minutes for our food to arrive, followed by our toast several minutes later, we were late for our customer meeting. This was consistent with my first stay back in Nov 11. In summary acceptable hotel, go out for dinner. Hope this is of use to you, thanks

“Good overnight stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Stayed here as an overnight stop on our way to Scotland. Room was as expected, clean and well equiped. There was an issue with the wall sockets which are ridiculously placed but reception let us have an adaptor which solved the problem right away. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Ideal overnight hotel.

“decent room for the price”

I stayed here for the first time to attend a party. The girls on reception were very friendly on check in and did explain to me that the bar was closed for food after 4.00pm and drinks from 5.00pm due to a private function. Whilst I find it stange that residents should be excluded for their own accomodation facilities, I did know this before I booked and as I was out all evening it did not affect my stay. I had a lovely big room and once I had worked out how to get the heating on, it was really comfortable. It was also nice to get a bathroom with a bath! I do agree with previous comments about the wall sockets - it was touch and go for a while if my hairdryer was actually going to plug in as they are very very close to the desk top. I didn't eat breakfast so can not comment on the food. A nice experience overall and I would stay again should I need to be in the Area.

“Good Value Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

Stayed at the Wishing Well for a night, 2 adults and 2 children. Friendly staff on welcome with very quick check in, ate at the hotel for lunch food was OK nothing in particular which I expected. Room was quite small for 4 of us but was very clean and did tend to get very warm. We had a Full English Breakfast in the morning which we paid for on arrival, breakfast was OK again but it was good value for money. Overall I would stop at this hotel again if needed to come to Selby.
