Spent a week in this lovely small town on the north side of Lake Trasimeno. It felt like a taste of real Italy.
Although the hotel was plain and the breakfast basic, the staff were friendly, owners very welcoming, room very clean and the coffee delicious. It is just round the corner from the town centre (where there are some great restaurants) and train station and a stone's throw from the lakeside - an excellent base for exploring this beautiful area of Umbria.
We caught the lake ferry to the island of Maggiore, where we spent all day exploring, the island is a delight and views stunning.
We visited Assisi and Perugia, both easy and cheap to reach by train. They are both beautiful fascinating towns with many medieval streets to explore, the basilica of St Francis was awesome! Scenery breathtaking.
Whether you want to walk the lake shore or surrounding hills you can't fail to enjoy this resort.
Notes of caution- take insect repellant as the midges come out in force at night! Transferring from Rome by road takes at least 3 hours. Avoid public toilets!
