This little hotel is on a pretty little spot on Lake Trasimeno - this is played up big time on the hotel's website. But the website is very misleading. The hotel owns the grounds that surround it and they rent it out to campers, who jam themselves into every square inch of the property. There are trailers everywhere, and camp gear. It is literally impossible to stand anywhere on the hotel property and look out on the lake view and not see a metal trailer littering your vista. They are parked right up to the shoreline. The hotel has a pretty little pool, but they give all the campers access to it, so it becomes a very busy and loud little pool. Also, the vast majority of the campers were from Switzerland it appeared. I don't want this to sound wrong - it doesn't matter to me where the campers came from, and they were all perfectly nice people - the point I'm trying to make is that a stay on this property definitely doesn't feel like an "Italian" experience. I actually never heard Italian being spoken while there. So if you're looking to relax in a tranquil quintessentially Italian setting and gaze out over the glittering waters of beautiful Lake Trasimeno, you ought to look elsewhere in the area.

I will say that the food in the restaurant was good and the staff was very nice and the town of Passignano is charming. Overall I'm just disappointed and feel misled that the website pictures are so far from reality. Maybe it's better when camping season is over.

Hotel Kursaal is actually a hotel on a camp ground, at least while we visited in July. While the photos listed on the hotel's website show a pretty hotel on a peaceful part of Lake Trasimeno (that part is true), they failed to show the jam packed campers that inhabit every square inch of the property which the hotel leases out to campers. These metal boxes were the view from any area of the hotel. Additionally, the hotel offered a suite for 4 with two balconies, one with a lake view. To be accurate, this should have said a side view of the lake with a view over the campgrounds. We felt completely mislead.

The "beach" is tiny and was lined on both sides by campers. There is no swimming in the lake from this beach. My kids loved the pool, as did the hundred other kids who were camping. Lake Trasimeno is beautful and quiet. Just not from Hotel Kursaal.
