My girlfriend and I had decided to go to Favignana for a long weekend, no pressure, but, first time away together, set dates and I hadn't got my act together, and the clock was ticking and I'm very particular about where I stay, I also predominately stay in boutique hotels.
Upon finally getting down to finding somewhere I quickly realised that there wasn't exactly a huge choice in terms of what I wanted, and what little there was either fully booked or very expensive!
It is fair to say that I looked at Casa Favonio early on in my search and was very attracted to it, but was put off as a result of some previous bad reviews, I was then attracted to the sister hotel and emailed the hotel for availability, I received a very polite reply advising me that there was no availability but that there was availability at Casa Favonio, there was a phone number with the email and I called, I spoke with a charming Lady called Sonya which it transpired is the owner, I explained my concerns about the reviews for Casa Favonio and Sonya explained in some considerable detail about the place and how the hotel is run, and also took the trouble to explain how the particular bad review had transpired, in short I know when I am being led up the garden path and I knew that what I was being told was straight.
I booked with Sonya over the phone and completed the booking and deposit by email - all very efficient. Sonya contacted me near to our arrival date and asked me to confirm our arrival time to the island from the hydrofoil so she could collect us, all of which went smoothly.
Casa Favonio was everything I expected and more, the location was wonderful in terms of what I like, peace and quiet with great views, it is contemporary and it's beautifully done, Sonya is a very well known interior designer in France and clearly knows her business. The staff were a joy and couldn't do enough to help, the food was excellent and we were happy to eat in and enjoyed discussing what we might have for each meal all of which was raw fresh each day, however I should mention that I'm a great lover of Italian food, the house white is Sicilian and hard tell from a rich Burgundy and very addictive if you like Burgundy! The kitchen had little regard for those of us trying to keep in shape and had a dangerous habit of producing wonderful home baked goodies and little snacks which either went with another cappuccino - expresso or another drink !!!
Casa favonio was immaculately kept and our room was equally well kept.
Our stay was blighted by bad weather and it was cold and wet for the majority of our stay, as a result of the weather we were somewhat inclined to stay in which in this instance was a pleasure, there is a large covered outdoor terrace with great views to the sea, and a very nice sitting room with a fire place.
I appreciate that everyone has their own tastes - likes and dislikes, but if your into Boutique Hotels Casa Favonio rates very highly in my book.
I also visited the sister hotel which is on the beach and is equally attractive and in a great location with it's own mini private beach, hence if you want to be ON the sea check out the website.
