Stayed for 2 nights (wanted to stay for longer, but fully booked on our available days) in a spa bath studio unit in the Kaka Point motel. Both motel units seem to be managed from the same reception and are just separated by a road.
The units are located in an elevated position giving good views (from our unit, and I would guess a number of others) over the Kaka Point beach to Nugget Point. There is ample parking available off road. The complex is single storey.
Our unit was excellent, it was, from memory, one of the more expensive rooms. The bed was big. There was a good set table and chairs. A comfy sofa and table. The kitchenette was well set up. The bathroom had a walk-in shower that operated very well. Didn't try the spa bath but it looked in good condition. Overall the unit had plenty of room. And it was well stocked with files providing a host of information on local and regional attractions, wildlife, walks, historical matters etc. Bruce was friendly and particularly helpful in giving advice on best viewing sites for wildlife, which proved to be spot-on including the Roaring Bay Doc hide (for yellow eyed penguins) and Surat Bay (for hooker sea lions). Bruce also runs an evening (and daily) optional visits programme, and additional cost, for wildlife viewing, local sights etc - which we didn't take advantage of this time, but might do on another occasion (as the guy is knowledgeable) when we return.
Wifi was available, the signal was strong and the upload speeds were acceptable - with access info being purchased from reception, as a acceptable rate.
The place is handy (by car) to Nugget Point, Cannibal Bay, Surat Bay, Cathedral Cove and those waterfalls in that general area. Plus, on a longer visit it would reasonable to factor in the other key sights - Curio Bay, Porpoise Bay and Jacks Blowhole- from this location, in my view. No problem with sand flies here!

The place is quite close to the sea, a steep walk up from the shore. We stayed in the older unit which was quite spacious, but aged. The beds were small (double), but the kitchen was really well stocked with utensils and appliances. Heater was near the door, not the ideal place. Toilet and shower were clean (like the rest of the unit) but water pressure was a bit lacking in the showers, and it's a stainless steel floor -- therefore cold. The views from the unit were quite amazing. They also provide an outdoor gas bbq on request.

Kaka Point is probably my favourite town to stay in the Catlins, and Nugget View Motels is now my favourite place to stay. We stayed for one night in the cheaper rooms and it was fantastic value. Very spacious and comfortable...it had everything we wanted and more. There's a great view from the Motel also and I had a great chat with the guy running the place (didn't get his name!), very nice chap. Would definitely stay again...

We stayed here for 2 nights. I booked via email about 3 months prior to arrival and I believed that I had booked us a studio-spa unit for $125 per night. However, on arrival it turned out that we simply got a studio unit without a spa for that price as someone other than the owners had done the bookings and made a mistake. No email was sent to me explaining the situation prior to our arrival, which is a little disappointing. The host was friendly and helpful, and gave us a map and information about the Catlins.
The unit was of a good standard. The shared balcony has a great view of Kaka Point beach. The unit was well-equipped and very clean, if a little dated and tired in decor (apricot walls). The native birds in the bushes in the garden outside were fantastic, and Kaka Point is a great location to stay.
NB: We avoided the local shops as they were hideously expensive with very limited range - I recommend getting groceries at Owaka 4 Square and eating at the Catlins Cafe in Owaka instead.
