“Great place!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2011

We are a couple from Spain, and we're travelling round New Zealand for some days. We stayed at Founders just one night in december 2010, at our honeymoon.

It's a great place, and the owners are so kindly. Chris helped us with our diner the day of arrival, and also managed a maori show at Rotorua in our next stage of the trip. And it was the best breakfast we'd in New Zealand. Lovely room.

“Just what we needed after the Tongariro Crossing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2010

Chris and Peter are excellent hosts. They actually got up to cook us a wonderful breakfast before the bus picked us up (at the house) between 6 and 6:30am to do the Tongariro Crossing. That alone was above and beyond the call of duty. We relaxed in the large and comfortable lounge room when we were exhausted after the hike, and enjoyed their company the next morning at another wonderful breakfast (where you can choose from a number of delicious options). Chris's muesli was so good I took the recipe home.

“Beautiful home and fabulous breakfast choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2009

Lovely hosts. A choice of cooked breakfast to follow the abundant fruit salad cereals and yoghurt. An absolutely beautiful house which we were priviliged to share. Short walk to fast flowing river and good fishing for those who want it. We were just on a one night break on our tour of NZ. Had a very good meal in the restauant near the bridge.

“Great hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2009

This large purpose built property is ideally located near Turangi and easy to find. The house itself is accommodation downstairs and the hosts living area upstairs. The ground floor had a number of bedrooms at the front, lounge area in the middle and the kitchen/dining room to the rear which opens onto a wonderful deck area.

The bedrooms are brilliant with big comfortable beds and plenty of space. The bathroom was perfect with a great shower. In the evening the beds are turned down and a jug of water with lemon is placed either side of the bed. There is also full privacy in the rooms which also have a key should you feel the need.

Guests are more than welcome to use the lounge areas and the hosts will go out of their way for you in all ways. Be it getting you plates out, making the tea, lighting the mozzie coil (sit near this in the garden in the evening) and generally just be great hosts. They are also a wonderful source of information. Obviously we were there for the crossing and they phoned to book us in but disaster struck. High winds were forecast and it was simply to dangerous on the ridge so no guides were operating.
Words like rescue and death were used so it is definitely best to take the local advice.
Our hosts pulled out an arsenal of alternatives for us and couldn’t have been more helpful. We opted for Mt Ruapehu area, originally we were going to do one thing but I ended up following a Lord of the Rings tour further up the mountain, we parked up and loitered cheekily within earshot. Once the winds had settled they opened up the ski lifts which operate all year regardless of snow. This took us further to the highest café and from there we walked up to the skyline. It’s not the summit and a bit of a mission but very worth it.

For the morning there is a substantial breakfast layout followed by a marvellous cooked selection which they wrote up on a board. Everything about this place was great and I can’t recommend it enough.

“Our Favorite B&B in New Zealand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2009

Founders was our favorite B&B in New Zealand.

The rooms were charming, well-appointed, and very light. The whole house was very comfortable, and there was a lovely garden/deck in the back where you could hang out. Turangi is quite small, so I don't think that anything is too far, and Founders is located in a nice residential area.

Chris and Peter were very knowledgeable about the area, and were very helpful with arrangements and advice for dinner, tours, etc. My husband and I had a 6:30AM bus to Tongariro, and Chris and Peter got up early so that we would have a full breakfast. Plus, Chris waited outside with us, chatting, until the bus showed up. There were some other lovely little touches as well, like a nightly turndown service and multiple choices for cooked breakfasts.
