The first thing I have to say about this resort is it has the most beautiful wide clean soft sandy beach, supposedly the best on the island, but it is isolated and good only if you have finished your travelling and want to just crash on the beach.
It has numerous restaurants and we found the best to be Syrah on the main Via Savoia and The Le Gna sara on a quieter road one block over closer to the port. I have to say it is not worth paying the inflated prices and eating in the hotel san vito.
We visited whilst the annual Cous cous fest was on and the town was buzzing!street markets, live music and hundreds of visitors! But when the week long festival finished the town went pretty sleepy! After all it is getting late in the season some restaurants and shops did close, but we didn't mind at all,.
The apartments are well situated clean and functional and sunbeds and umbrellas are included in the price on a section of the beach, which at 12 euros a day does help.
It takes an hour to get to Palermo from San Vito and there isn't a great deal do do around but we did visit Erice a very nice mountain top town, well worth while, Castellamare del golfo very busy, ... Scopello not very nice at all very dirty beach I would avoid.Segesta ruins very nice, Palermo is interesting but the traffic awful, only for the brave! Last but by no means Monreale cathedral..WOW! well worth a visit and the shoppings good here too! My general summing up is western Sicily is very picturesque, the locals do not seem to be very tourist friendly yet) but if you're happy to face a bit of a challenge and sort things out for yourself it does have some real little gems.
