We stayed here for one night in late September as part of a German road trip. I only wish we could have stayed here longer, as it was the perfect place to stay and Barbara was a wonderful hostess. We speak only basic German, which was fine for basic conversations, but Barbara's English is absolutely perfect, so it was easy to speak with her and she was happy to give suggestions about the area.
Our room was quite large, and certainly more space than we needed! It was nicely decorated and felt more like we were staying with a good friend than staying at a standard guesthouse. It was clean, quiet, and comfortable and we were able to get a good night's rest. I did have a little trouble with the door lock, but this was only a minor inconvenience.
We ate at the restaurant for dinner, and everything was wonderful. In fact, my husband says it was the best meal of the trip! He loved the wild boar bacon, fantastic cheeses, fresh made butter, and overall fantastic dining. The prices were quite reasonable and service was friendly. Breakfast in the morning was a typical German buffet, with cold cuts, cheeses, breads, jams, cereals, yogurts, and juices. Please take try the marvelous jams and spreads (homemade!) as they were quite delicious. I am a little embarassed to admit that I tried each and every one of them, using a different flavor jam for about a quarter slice of bread each. It was an indulgent and delicious breakfast! I wish that we could have purchased dozens of jars to bring home, but we weren't sure what US Customs would allow as far as homemade fruit jams. As it was, we "smuggled" some milchemarmelade back home.
The hotel is located in the small town of Sankt Peter. It was a short walk to the cathedral and town center and right next to a bus stop if you are traveling from town to town (public transportation access is included with your stay). We had a car (free parking at the hotel), and found it easy and quick to get around the area. Sankt Peter is the perfect place to stay, with the small town feel we expected in the Black Forest (not touristy at all) but easy access to day trip to other areas. The town itself is easily seen in half a day, though you could spend much longer if you used it as a base for day trips to other towns in the Schwarzwald or walking/trekking nearby.
