“Beautiful!”

We had a 2 night stay at this beautiful guest house in Nov '11 for a family wedding. On arrival we were greeted by Eithne (manager I think, if not should be!) who was a genuinely lovely and very welcoming person. Our room was the Pickering room which was lovely with a big ensuite, we are a family of 4 and there was plenty of room for us all even with the travel cot and extra bed in the room. I had a look at all of the rooms and they are all very individually decorated but all very lovely. I quite liked the Beaumont room as it was very spacious. Food was also good I have stayed at a 5 star resort but was not made feel as special or welcome as I did here, I really can't sing their praises enough.

Room Tip: For a really spacious room go for Beaumont

“Superb...”

I cannot think of anything that would have made this stay more perfect. We stayed one night in the Pickering Room which is a beautiful room at the top of the house and received an excellent welcome from the hosts.

The attention to detail sets this apart from other similar properties. Leaf tea and fresh milk in the rooms, wonderful soft towels, well stocked DVD and book library, fabulous food, local beers, open fires, free wifi ... I could go on.

Highly recommended for romantic getaway.

Room Tip: Waddell room has a couple of steps down to the bathroom.

“A really unique and peaceful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

We stayed only one night at Newforge as we were attending a friend's birthday party in a nearby town. We arrived after a long drive and ferry crossing from the UK with limited time to recharge, wash and change. The welcome was warm, genuine and we were offered fresh coffee or tea. The room we had was stunning and the owner had kindly upgraded us at no charge as they were not full that night. Our bathroom was wonderfully appointed, spotlessly clean and with an abundance of hot water and fluffy towels. A taxi was arranged for us, and on returning late that night our room had been turned down, shutters pulled and lights left on. After a peaceful night we feasted on a cracking Ulster breakfast and took time to wander around the beautiful mature gardens, hunting out the chickens who had supplied the eggs at our substantial breakfast. It was like The Secret Garden! This is an excellent place to stay; it still feels like a house and home but with all the conveniences of a top rate guest house. The welcome is warm, the owner clearly loves the property and its history and wants guests to feel relaxed. Many places could learn a lot from how Newforge create their guest experience. We will be back I hope!

“Old world charm, Perfect”

I've stayed here twice in the last year and could not fault it. The staff are so friendly and welcoming you immediately feel at home. The House is small with 6 bedrooms so if you're looking for a quiet night away this is the perfect place. The rooms are so well maintained with period features, some bathrooms have roll-top baths but also modern showers. Dining is limited to two options for starters, main and desserts but I've always been happy with the options and the service throughout dinner is excellent.

Overall I love Newforge House, would have no hesitation in recommending it and will definitely be going back!
