“Go now.. it may not last without your support”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

The Antik Hotel... that says it all. It isn't high tech, it isn't slick but it is real.
It looks ok and it sleeps fantastic but it needs some maintenance in the near future or it won't last another 5 years. The staff is friendly but they started to show us the most horrible room at the top floor under the roof (hot) which was smelly and noisy. Strangely they could also offer for the same price an airy room at the back... strange way of trying to sell a room!
The breakfast is not overwhelming but it has bread, jam and Nescafe which is better than the boiled coffee they also have on offer.
Location is spot on in the road behind the city centre which is an authentic small town with beautiful mosques and a lovely shopping street with great architecture. A town easily to be mistaken for high rise Chinese buildings only but surprisingly charming in the old parts.

“A bit pricey, but a very good hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

We only had 1 night in Edirne, but we were able to see a fair bit before leaving for Istanbul. When we arrived, we were a little disoriented and caught a cab from the Ulusoy office to the hotel. As it turned out, the Antik Hotel was only a few hundred metres away, but the cab driver was happy!

The hotel is in a good location, and is, in fact near the corner where theTourist Information Office is. The staff were very friendly and very helpful, making sure that we did not carry our bags to our room and making sure we didn't carry them down when we left. The staff also provided us with maps and information about Edirne.

Our room was very comfortable, although the decor was a bit fussy. The view from our room of Selimiye mosque was lovely. The bathroom was above average for a hotel of this standard and the water was hot, both at night and in the morning (not so common).

In the morning we had a nice breakfast in the garden, and despite the fact that it was a chilly morning, we were able to find a table in the sunshine. We asked for a cup of Turkish coffee and were served freshly brewed cups at no extra cost.

The hotel staff were happy to mind our bags after checkout so we could do some sight-seeing until mid-afternoon. The hotel certainly helped make our short stay a happy one.

“Turkish hospitality shone through (and we desperately needed it)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2010

My sister and I originally went to Edirne to renew our tourist visas to stay in Turkey for another three months. We thought we could go to the border from the Istanbul bus and turn around immediately. However, it was a *dark and stormy night* :) and given the strangeness of being in a tri-border area, we didn't want to travel as two young women in the dark in the countryside without having any idea where we were going. So we checked into the Otel Antik. I thought it was a little pricey at 100 lira, and even though the hotel is pretty cute (different at least) and clean, our room smelled a bit. But then the view outside our window of Edirne's mosques was amazing (see picture). And we ate hamburgers at a pub across the street (I know the liver is supposed to be amazing but I wanted comfort food!). We got a good night's sleep and then ate breakfast Turkish-style in the morning with two very friendly women running the breakfast room that I even practiced Turkish with. When we checked out, I tried to pay for the drinks from the minibar and the owner wouldn't let me! And then I asked him where I could buy an umbrella to avoid the rain as we made our way to the Greek border and back. He GAVE me one. And it really made my day.

“a good, centrally located, turkish province, Liberace-meets-Gina Lollobrigida small hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2010

hotel antik provides a perfect central location, but being on a side street it's luckily not noisy. the building is a nice, revamped early 1900s small villa in a charming and central part of edirne with many old traditional wooden houses. despite our twin room request we were kindly assigned a large triple on the uppermost floor with a stunning view of the selimiye mosque but with two ramp of stairs (no lift exists) to climb. hotel is very clean throughout but its style, the furniture, the wall colors and the decoration details leave much to be desired: i would call it a liberace-meets-lollobrigida flamboyant, eccentric, baroque yet very provincial style which many could definitely not like. it's certainly not a minimalist-chic hotel as some travellers like. it's a pity such a charming old building was repainted and refurbished this way. service is so-so, english almost not spoken, some (little) german understood, breakfast served with rather scarce in quantity and very mediocre in quality food. even tea which in turkey is always good and tasty, was tasteless. depite my critics though i would recommend this place for cleanliness and location (and very dubious alternative places to stay in this very untouristic -but beautiful- city). it's a no-no however for elderly or handicapped because of the steep stairs.
