“Right in the heart of the action”

Strictly speaking it was my parents who stayed at this hotel, but they were so impressed they asked me to write on their behalf (as they are not computer literate) and I had told them about this site and other hotels around the world that I had commented on and how useful it was to other travellers.

This is the jist of it: This hotel is slap bang in the middle of the "west end" of san antonio. If falling out of bars and immediately into the front door of your hotel without wandering the unfamiliar streets searching for a hotel you cant even remember the name of. It was easy to find and easy to get to.

Obviously with the location of this hotel its more popular with the under 25s and party people in general ( my parents are 57 & 60) but they still loved every minute of it. My dad in particular loved the fact that the bar downstairs was 24hr! They loved the bar staff and got on first name terms with them all by the time that they left and eventhough they said it was understandably not the quietest hotel ever, it was suprisingly easy to sleep in dispite the party going on around them. They had room 505 which has a double bed in it (think the other rooms just have combinations of singles) and some amazing views across the beach and bay. This room also had a fridge, but I'm not sure if the other rooms did or not.

The hotel surrounded by tons of bars and restaurants, but evenso my dad became addicted to the cheese and ham toasties served at the hotel bar. Super cheap, but really good all the same.

I have seen the other review that said the lift didnt work, but by this summer it worked fine. didnt like more than 3 people being in it, but aside from that it went up everytime I wanted it to go up, and came down everytime too, so what more could ask for a lift?

all in all, they loved their experience in the hotel but would have liked there to have been a pool (which there is not) but the beach is less than 5 mins walk away (and could be seen from the balcony) so it wasnt that big a deal in the end.

Price wise it was really really cheap. The longer you stay, the cheaper it is per night and their stay was only €30 a night in the end. For peak season in Ibiza, I thought that was pretty good and seeing as I was paying and I searched around for them to stay somewhere I was happy that I found it as lesser hotels/hostels were double that in July and triple that in August!

They would definately book/stay again and when more friends come to visit I'm going to suggest they stay there too.

Room Tip: room 505 has the best views and the biggest balcony

“Clean, cheap, central location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2010

We were originally booked into the hostel torres, which had a pool. However, when we arrived there, they were booked up, so we were moved to the don juan. i was quite cross by this, as i had specifically booked the torres because of the pool.
We were told we could still use the pool facilities, but as we were moved 5 mins away, its hardly the same as having a pool downstairs.
I was not aware that i had booked into the hostel chain, where they can move you to any of there places, when they over book.
However, the staff at the don juan were very helpful and kind. they let us look at three rooms and choose which one we would like. The room we had was very big and clean.
The balcony was a bit unsafe though, dont lean on it. There was air con available, which we couldnt live without. You pay twenty euros deposit and get that back when you hand in the remote and the recipt.
The lift was broken , so we had five flights of stairs to climb, but that couldnt be helped, just unlucky!
The don juan is right above the bars in the west end.The music isnt that bad, and on our last night we slept ok.
Its in a great location but the nearest beach is awful. Its man made, horrible sand with lots of rubbish and cig ends.Apparently a short boat ride away, there is a really nice beach.
Make sure you see the sunset, from the sunset strip, although beer is really expensive, take your own and sit on the rocks!

“Cannot fault this basic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2009

Stayed at Hostal Don Juan for one week and was so impressed. It's a basic hotel essentially. It's located in the heart of the busy West End with all the cheesy pubs and bars around. The reception people were friendly and helpful enough. The room was a decent size and spotlessly clean except a few dustballs under the bed! We were in 406 and enjoyed the messages left by previous guests written in the drawer of the dresser which doubled as the guest book!

There was an adequate balcony with fab views over San An bay (see pics!). The noise from the West End at night didn't cause any problems despite the single pane glass. A few conversations were audible but we all slept fine through the hubbub below. The aircon was available with a deposit and was a godsend. Safety boxes are available for a charge and a returnable deposit. Felt very safe and secure while staying here. The lift does play up sometimes because its old - if you're phobic - take the stairs and get the exercise.

The rate through hostelbookers.com was really cheap. Would definitely return to Don Juan - couldn't ask for more.
