I stayed at Mar Amantis 2 from 9th-16th October 2011.
First and foremost, if you are disabled and/or wheelchair bound. Do not bother to read on. This is not the hotel or area for you.
AREA. Nicely positioned for the ferry boat to cross the bay. Handy for supermarkets and bars which are a short way along the road. However the area, both buildings, roads and pavements are either tired, worn or in need of considerable uplift. Pavements in particular very uneven. Many premises boarded up or partially built. I would imagine that in peak season, those bars that still are open will cause a lot of noise.
HOTEL. Very clean and tidy as are the bedrooms. if as others have mentioned, a little basic. The attention to the bedroom cleaning would not disgrace a much higher rated hotel i.e. shower curtains changed almost daily. The staff were very friendly and efficient (except for one, but more of that later)
The reception area and all floors are covered by cctv. I was boarded in the Mar Amantis 2 and only went to the Amantis one for food.
I mentioned earlier that not the place for the disabled. I cannot be certain but the lifts that I had to use just about accommodated a child's push chair and one adult. It would certainly not take a invalid chair. A smaller point about the lift is that it did not allow a great deal of time before closing often catching the person leaving/entering a fairly heavy blow. Clearly attention is needed here, particularly for a small child.
ENVIRONMENT if you are looking for peace and quite, this is not the place for you. If you like to stay out most of the night and return to your room and put your television on full blast or have a full scale argument with who ever you are with, you will be at home.
One expects noise from the nightly entertainment, even if it is poor, as this usually ends just after 11pm. However children & adults using the corridors as rallying points does leave a little bit to be desired.
Now to the poor member of staff. My son, who was in the next room to me, had his small child with him. When by 12 midnight the one night, a youth of about 14 had been making noise outside his room for some time. When asked to stop being told about the young child, he did comply. Later that same night he had to be asked to move away again.
The following night this youth and several of his friends were playing in the reception area throwing drinks over each other and stopping the lift from going to the upper floors. All this under the direct observation of a young female receptionist.
When my son had retired to bed with his child they were awoken by their door being banged and the youths running away. This happened several times. Eventually another member of the group went to reception and registered a complaint. Looking at the cctv. The receptionist stated that she could see no one in the hallway.
When told the youths could be in trouble over their actions she was more concerned over their welfare than that of the other guests.
I took the matter up with her and pointed out her lack of action when the youths had been playing in and around the lift and reception area. She said she had seen nothing.
Not wanting to waste my time on her any further I took the matter up with the senior receptionist the following day. She was excellent. She viewed cctv. identified the actions we had described and brought it to the notice of the youths parents, who later had the good grace to apologise to my son. The value of cctv proved on this issue.
FOOD the rating of the food in my estimation was adaquate to good. It was all inclusive and it should be said, something for everyone. I must point out that for the majority of my stay the hotel was far from full. I do not think that I would like to have dined there under full conditions.
POOL area. Very clean nice pool formation and grassed area. Sadly the sunbeds were nearly all broken in some manner or other, usually the bed part. Again if the hotel had been nearer capacity!!!!!
OVERVIEW not an hotel under the conditions that I stayed in for the silver surfer! I would not go back, which is a shame when I consider that majority of the staff are some of the friendliest that I have encountered
Room Tip: Probably best to request one over looking side street. But noise from outside bars could still cause...
