From the moment you arrive at this wonderful and enchanting property, you are transported into a beautiful and restful oasis that you may not want to leave.
Everywhere you look is beauty. The hotel is a very attractive Spanish/Italian style structure that looks like a mansion from the front. The rooms are perfect and the public spaces rustic and homey. The courtyards are charming, the gardens are blooming, and the setting is outstanding. The hotel is located in a quiet valley surrounded by lush green mountains covered with olive trees.
We stayed in the Grand Nelson Suite which was outstanding. It consisted of two large rooms, two bathrooms, a small balcony with two chairs, a Juliet balcony, two TV’s, and a fireplace. The living room had three couches, one a pull out, facing the fireplace. The bedroom had a nice big lounge chair. All of our luggage could fit in the walk-in closet which also had a small refrigerator. The main bathroom was very nice and large. It had double sinks, a great Jacuzzi tub, and a walk-in rain shower. The two main rooms had three exposures and ten windows, each with a pretty view. The overall look of the rooms was country elegance with red tiled floors, two crystal chandeliers, floral fabrics, and antique tables. The abundant afternoon light made the suite look even better.
The public rooms of the hotel are equally pleasant. There is a comfortable living room with fireplace. The country dining room is charming. A glass enclosed porch room is filled with cushioned patio furniture with a small bar at one end. There is a courtyard in the center of the hotel that is the perfect place for a drink, or maybe that would be the terrace overlooking the grounds and mountains. The dark blue tiled pool is a good size, has over a dozen loungers around it and is surrounded by a nice cream colored wall. In an adjoining walled courtyard is the Jacuzzi.
Since the hotel is in a remote location and because we hated leaving, we had dinner at the hotel each night. The menu is not large, but it is broad so there is something for everyone. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Dinner starts at 8:30pm which worked out fine for us and it helped that it stays light out until 10pm in late May. Breakfast is served in the same room and starts at 8:00am. It is a nice simple buffet with all the basics available.
No stay is perfect without a great staff and the staff shines here. Manuel is your host and he is very helpful and nice. Juan is the waiter at dinner, and also the bar tender. He is very pleasant and charming.
The hotel is so nice and the setting so beautiful that it is worth the extra travel time needed if you are touring from the hotel. The hotel is actually a good central location to tour many areas of Andalusia if you are willing to do some driving. We spent four nights here and made it to all the main tourist sites and still had plenty of time to get back to the hotel to enjoy it.
We tried the TV once and the satellite was down and never tried again. The internet worked most of the time, was slow at times, but manageable. The closest town is Rute which did not really impress us, and is about 15 minutes away.
We travel a lot and where we stay is very important to us. This was just about the best hotel stay we have ever had. The suite was just so beautiful, the location surreal, the dining lovely, it was perfect.
