“The beautiful Algarve October 1/2 term 2011”

The resort-
Praia da Rocha itself is quite built up and I was a little worried, on arrival, that it would be too commercialised. But i need not have worried. The beaches are beautiful and clean with stunning caves and cliff faces. The beach of coves is nearest to the hotel and a little further on a more busy wider beach with sun loungers, cafes and banana boat, ringo rides etc.
You will have visits from ALi Baba on the beach trying to sell you watches and jewelry etc.
The beach has a lifeguard and it was safe for small children. It is a steep climb up and down to the beach but worth it.

We stayed towards the last week of the season and some attractions were closed. we were lucky with the weather though. Temps ranged from 22-27 degrees.
There is a lot of graffiti and my partner was offered drugs twice whilst walking to a restaurant with the children.
The restaurants all pretty much have the same menus with a variety of traditional and english foods. It is not cheap though.

The Apartment-
The Plaza Real Apartments are clean and spacious and every other day a cleaner came in and cleaned the toilets. Our oven gave up on us at one point and it took 50 mins to bake a frozen pizza so test your oven before cooking a meal for a hungry family.
Our tv reception was fuzzy and we barely were able to see the picture but we didn't want to sat in watching tv anyhow and just had sky news on in the background.
The food in the hotel is expensive and a basic menu. They have one internet station at 1 euro for 20 mins. The kids facilities are poor. The playground is in a secluded shady area but very basic and only an air hockey and pool table, There was no kids club whilst we were there. The pool was small and not heated but my kids still enjoyed it. The evening entertainment was bingo (once a week) and karaoke (Tues and Fri) and mostly football on the sky tv screens (every night!), We used the hotel as a base only and hired a car.

The skydive Centre and other attractions.

Skydive Algarve is only 15 mins from Plaza Real by car. My partner and I both skydive and we took our children (15 and 8 years) on a tandem skydive, My other daughter who is very timid preferred a swim with a dolphin experience at Zoomarine in Guia (40 min drive).
Zoomarine is expensive and in October a lot of the experiences were closed. The dolphin show was okay and the seal show was a bit too 'over the top' with all the acting!!

Overall

I wouldn't go back to Plaza Real as there are so many more places int he Algarve to stay but I would go back to the area. I would try Alvor next for accomodation.

Go SKYDIVE - its great fun - tell Joorn Ann and Tom recommended the Centre!!

Value for money - you couldn't fault it. Basic and clean is what I would say. I wouldn;t take young children there as there is a lot of walking and having a pushchair down to the beach would be horrendous..

“Fabulously fantastic”

Stayed here for a week at the back end of September 2011 with my fiancee and our 20 month old daughter and all I can say is fantastic!! We had a ground floor one bedroom apartment and it was massive!! A fully fitted kitchen and instead of a balcony we had a massive sun terrace with a table and 4 chairs plus 2 sun loungers! The apartments really are amazing as the look in the brochure/Internet pictures, the bar is great and is open till 2 in the morning but doesn't have music blasting out! The food and drink is a tad expensive but us very nice! And if you want to cook for yourself there is an aldi 5 minute walk away! The pool I would imagine would be to small in the height of season but was big enough during our stay, although I would recommend going to the beach its amazing and it's huge! Probably the best beach I've ever been to, you do have to access it via some steep steps but is totally worth it, if you are planning on staying here I hope you have as much fun as I did :-)

We have just returned from Plaza Real, Playa Da Rocha (20.10.11)
Highley recommended, read the reviews before we went and they were good, but we were still surprised at the size and extra cleanliness of the appartment.Good kitchen with full sized cooker and fridge freezer, microwave.Free T.V with some English channels.Balcony back and front so could catch the sun either way.Pool with beds around. As stated in reviews, small supermarket Orange nearby. Massive Continente supermaret 15/20minute walk to the right out of entrance. Prices reasonable (We did a weeks shopping)
It is a walk down to the beach, turn Left out of entrance and walk straight.
Lovely helpful rep Claire. Very good value for money. We are a couple of pension age.Walked to Portimeo and Alvor via Praia Du Vau, good excercise.ENJOY
Portugal has beautiful beaches

“Cheap and cheerful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

Quite location at the back of the resort but within an easy walk of beach and large supermarket. Rooms basis but clean, although electrics are very temperamental and electrics trip on a regular basis. Bathroom very large but in need of some tender loving care. The holiday rep was fantastic.

“Vakue for money holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

Last week we returned from a last-minute cheap week away in the Algarve, staying at the Plaza Real apartments.

We hired a car from Faro airport, and stopped on our way to shop for essentials at the local, massive, Continente supermarket (open 'till 11pm on a Sunday!), so that we could unpack and settle in immediately, without having to unpack then go out to buy water, milk etc.

Each of the main accommodation blocks has two lifts, so no problem getting up and down stairs. The one bedroom apartment was bigger in size than our two bedroom flat in England. We had a large kitchen, big bathroom, good sized lounge/diner (all the main UK & Portuguese TV channels) & double balcony, along with a nice twin bedroom with plenty of storage space for clothes.

The apartment could not be described as high-tech or modern, but it was certainly adequate for a week or two in the sun. Maybe €30 or €40 spent by the owners updating the antique kettle, toaster & toilet seat would be a good investment - but everything else was fine.

Location-wise, we were glad we hired a car. It's about a 20/30 minute walk into Praia Da Rocha itself, but we preferred nearby Alvor as the beach was more accessible, and the 'town' had a more traditional feel.

There are a few bars/cafes/restaurants within 5 to 15mins walk of the apartments - all very friendly, and some open quite late. The Continente shopping plaza nearby also has a small food court with various eateries including Pizza Hut.

The resort itself is quite built up, but was fairly quiet at night as it was late in the season. If you don't want to walk, a taxi costs around €4.50 each way - they're all metered & with very friendly drivers.

The complex itself has its own bar & cafe on-site which, although never very busy, has all the essentials on the menu if you did not want to venture far during the day or night.

Overall, we would recommend the Plaza Real as a good base to say if you want a nice, simple holiday in Portugal, in a fairly quiet location with good amenities on hand if you need them. Car rental is quite good value on the Algarve, and there is free parking on-site, so if you fancy getting around and exploring further afield, this would be a good choice.

Room Tip: Blocks B overlooks the pool and gets sun for most of the day. Ground floor rooms in blocks A &...
