“Fantastic holiday !!!!”

We`d booked this as our first family holiday. With some other friends. The price we paid was £340 for 2 adults 1 child self-catering in June 2011.fantastic. After an hour transfer, we`d arrived at the hotel. First impression not so good, but we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. As we check in the staff were very helpful as I suffer with anxiety and was told my room would be on the top floor, I asked if I could be moved and they done so without a hitch. The room was very clean and tidy, fresh bedding and towels a bit dated but the furniture was presentable. After reading the reviews we`d bought a universal remote for the TV from the pound shop back home which worked. My daughter couldn’t wait to get in the pool with the friends. People are winging the pool is cold on here, but as it was so hot outside we were glad of it. The pool was cleaned out every night. Towels and bedding was changed every day or every 2 days. As we were self-catering we would eat breakfast at Daly’s every morning (at side of hotel).Dinner would be a snack whether it was chips and burger from the hotel which was not expensive around 1/2 euro or we`d go to Toni’s pizza place (2 min walk) and eat that buy the pool. for tea, we`d all get ready and head out to eat on the strip, where there is loads of variety of delicious foods at reasonable prices. AVOID THE TITANIC unless you like food without flavoring. Eww, not a place for children either. For night entertainment we would not stay at hotel as it was in English the children got bored, so we`d head down the strip where the children were welcome everywhere then end the night at Daly’s bar which when the children got tired it weren’t far for us to go back. At the bar we had such a laugh as there was a parrot show and Michael Jackson Portugal’s got talent. Nights were holidays memories were made ;-). Would recommend the zoo marine, where you will find a 4d cinema, sea lion show, bird shows and also dolphin shows. A friend of ours fulfilled her dream of swimming with them which was only around £300 and is done in a private quite peaceful area of the park. You should never judge a book by its cover!! This is a brilliant hotel with friendly staff, basic rooms, fantastic pool, in a great location with plenty of enjoyment. Ur holiday is what u make it. We would certainly go back. People are just too fussy!!

“Good accomodation at a cheap price”

We stay at the Club Praia da Rocha every time we visit the Algarve. This is cheap accomodation with adequate facilities. The reason we keep coming back is not because of the hotel amenities but its location and price.

Hotel is now run down with outdated rooms and basic bar/entertainment Room/restaurant facilities. The pool side area is suffocating with all the highrise building around which blocks out the sun at certain times of the day. The walls of the building are thin so you can hear everything and I mean everything that goes on beside you, ontop of you and beneath you.

BUT and there is a big BUT. If you are looking for a budget holiday and a Hotel that puts you right in the center of a beautiful resort then this place is for you.

Right beside the Hotel is the best Irish bar (Dalys) in Praia da Rocha. In fact its the only irish owned bar in the resort. During peak season its great craic for couples, families and golfers. Off-Peak the bar closes. Up the hill and on the main strip are more bars with happy hour deals and nightclub spots.

We never ate in the restaurant, we always ate out. My wife lives the Atlantic or the Titantic restaurants so we spend alot of our times in there. Other restaurants include a Tex-Mex on the main strip and an itialian beside it which are lovely.

The beach is fantastic and only 10 minutes walk from Hotel. We spend all our days at the beach and dont bother with the pool.

So if your looking for a budget holiday and are not fussy with hotels, this hotel is for you.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the main complex as the other one is a 3 minutes walk to the lifts across the pool ar...

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Me and my partner have just come back from staying here for a week and I have to say we were very disappointed by what we got.

Although the studio was quite spacious, had a decent view of the pool (minus the massive tree outside our window) and the heating was on in the room when we arrived, we kind of expected more.

There was 2 single beds that we pushed together which were not at all comfortable. The matresses were sitting on a plank of wood on top of the base. There were a few springs that kept digging in to us.

We decided to go self catering as we were going out of season and didn't think that the food would be of the best quality due to this, big mistake. All we had to cook with was 2 electric hobs. Couldn't even tell if they were on until you put your hand over them to feel if any heat was coming off them. Crockery was very basic and limited and really needs updating.

The bathroom was OK, colour scheme hurt my eyes a little but dealt with it. My biggest thing about the bathroom is the shower. It isn't attached to the wall as it is in many hotels and homes so you will either need to stand in the bath and hold it over you or, as we did, open the bathroom window slightly and wedge it in there, not ideal but it worked. The bath had rust marks in it, which really put me off and if we weren't there for a week I may have waited until I got home. To get a bath we needed to take off the shower head and hold the pipe in the bath until it filled up, oh yeah there's no tap on the bath either. There had also been a lot of patching up in our bathroom which had not been covered up very well. Oh and there was damp on the ceiling.

Now for the extremely disappointing part, when we booked the holiday we were well aware that it wasn't going to be particularly hot and that most hotels outdoor swimming pools would probably be closed so therefore we chose this hotel purely on the basis that it advertised a HEATED INDOOR SWIMMING POOL. We did not have this. On our first morning we donned our swimming gear and went to reception to ask if the indoor pool was open, we were told that it was but it wasn't heated and wouldn't be heated during our stay. However, we thought 'how cold can it really be?'. Well the answer is freezing! It is located in a little out building on the grounds, which isn't easy to access. When we walked in to the building, I immediately wanted to walk back out. It was extremely dirty, mould and damp on the walls, the pool was only half full and extremely dirty with dead bugs floating in it. We were mortified and this kind of messed up our holiday as we both love to swim and not couldn't.

The on-site mini market was barely stocked and very over priced. The bar always seemed to have 'just closed' every night, even though we went down at different times and never seemed to be open during the day.

The only decent things about this place are the reception staff who are helpful and friendly and it's location, kind of. It's at the bottom of quite a steep hill but is only 5 minute walk from the strip and Praia da Rocha's beautiful beach.

Although we got this hotel at a very cheap price, we will definitely not be staying here again, we will pay a little extra for some place a little nicer and I would recommend anybody doing this.

“dated but adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

stayed here on my first ever sun holiday back in 2000 and it was jammed during the summer. I wasnt really keen on the resort that time so wasnt expecting much but our entire 4 days cost us €115 including flights so I thought I'd give it a go again. This time we were heading for some winter sun.. The apartments and indeed the entire resort have not changed one single bit in 11 years! Exact same bars, restuarants, clubs etc. The apartments were fine although after this length of time they are tired and grubby but not the worst I've stayed in and they were fine for a short stay. They were equiped with saucepans, cutlery etc although a kettle and iron cost extra. My shower head was also not attached to the wall so was basically a hose although to be fair I didnt bother being asked to move. Its worth noting that absolutely everything costs extra including the remote (€5 per day) and security box. Interest is available downstairs for €1 for 10 mins.

Breakfast was awful though and expensive for the area at €6 a day (you can pay upfront for a few days for a discounted rated but really wouldnt recommend it!) Better to just either head up the hill to Marinas or cook your own (theres a supermarket right next door.)

The location is very good being just 5 mins from the beach and the main area. Very quiet this time of year though and while I remember there being a few good places to eat during my last visit, none were open this year so we were forced to live on basically burgers and chips.

beach was great at this time of the year because there was literally no one on it where in the summer you couldnt get down it at all.

I personally am not a fan of praia da rocha itself.. Its a resort aimed more for familys and older people. I was hoping for a bit more life at night and some decent food. For the real nightlife you need to head to albufera but its quiet far away and not very convenient for a night out.

“Clube Praia da Roche- perfect for young couples”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

My boyfriend and I had booked our first holiday together to Portugal last summer. On arrival the staff were welcoming and friendly and the room was lovely! Our studio appartement was extremely large complete with en-suite bathroom, kitchen and balcony overlooking the pool. The room was quite and felt very secure both at night and during the day. The hotel was well located with the main strip, supermarkets and fabulous beach just a 5 minute walk away. Although in a holiday I would usually look for something a bit more luxurious, this appartment was fantastic and I shall definately be returning here again! It may be a little bit run down but the hotel is great value for money and is perfect for a short break away! The town it's self is also fabulous, with many street entertainers and bars, the nightlife is brilliant, however I think the highlight of the holiday was the food! The restaurant 'La Dolce Vita' was excellent, serving the best Italian food I've ever had! The prices were also extremely reasonable with a main and starter each costing just over 20 euros, including wine and beer! Another brilliant places to visit is 'Fagins', a traditional fish and chip shop based near to the hotel...the staff are brilliant and friendly, and eating a pukka pie on the seafront watching the sunset was amazing! I strongly reccommend this hotel and location!

Room Tip: Ask for one in the larger block, as these are nicer rooms.
