During our visit to fascinating Malta, we made an exciting side-excursion by ferry from Valletta to Pozzallo in Sicily and stayed at this great BnB, walking from ferry terminal along the length of the town along the charming back streets (about 5kms.) to this eastern residential area where all the streets are named after capital cities, eg London, Berlin, Athens ... with Costaiblea on via Stockholm (Stoccolma).
Costaiblea is part of a modern apartment complex (see pic), in an area of busy construction work on more apartment blocks, but luckily the noise was not intrusive. The exterior signage for the BnB entry is very discrete so having a hardcopy of the BnB info with photos and map proved very helpful.
The reception area and breakfast room were cosy and welcoming, the guesthouse spotlessly clean, the rooms very modern, if a little sterile in their functional design. The beds were extremely comfortable, (although a second pillow per bed would have added to the comfort), and the bathroom was sparkling and spacious, complete with bidet.
The double doors opening on to a little garden patio gave the perception of extra space, and the free wifi was a bonus!
The guesthouse is within easy walking distance to the Pietrenere beach, and we strolled its length into Pozzallo's centre with a visit to the old 15 century fort, affectionately known as La Torre (The Tower).
The functionality of the rooms was more than compensated for by the warm and generous hosts, especially Ella, who provided lots of helpful information and was a wonderful barista for the morning breakfast coffee included with the cereal, toast, juice and croissants. Over breakfast, Ella hears we're not departing Pozzallo until the evening ferry departs for Valletta at 9:30pm, and volunteers free use of the room for as long as we need it, as the guesthouse was not fully booked. Just perfect, could enjoy a full day of exploring followed by a siesta and shower before walking back to the ferry terminal.
Thank you, Ella! A wonderful small nibble at the feast that is Sicily.
