I travelled with a colleague to report on the F1 German Grand-Prix and stayed for three nights. This hotel is about 20 minutes away from Hockenheim and, although we booked pretty late we got a reasonable deal on the price. It's located on an industrial estate, so while the scenery wasn't pretty, it was only a few minutes from the Autobahn.
Check-in was trouble-free and the staff were very friendly, even offering a free glass of prosecco whilst checking in.. So far so good...
On arrival in the room I discovered the bin in the toilet was full to the brim as it had not been emptied after the previous occupant! I really didn't appreciate being faced with used toiletries etc... My colleague speaks no German but there was one English-language channel on the TV (CNN - great), which wasn't working (not so great). There was a minibar, which had a basic stock supply but unfortunately no bottle opener. The Aircon sounded like a hurricane! (I appreciate it was very warm outside and it would have had trouble coping). The telephone looked like it had been dropped at some point - there was a gap in the housing.
These are all small faults (perhaps with the exception of the full bin) which I reported before leaving the hotel the morning after arrival and, whilst I accept there was probably not a lot could be done about the aircon, I expected some feedback about the other problems. The feedback, however was not forthcoming. I reported the TV fault again on the third day and expressed my disappointment and dissatisfaction that no-one had been in touch to (1) apologise about the full bin (2) leave a bottle-opener or (3) explain why the TV/aircon couldn't be fixed. Just not good enough for what is meant to be a 4* hotel.
The hotel has a restaurant, which is rather soulless (a bit like an 80s throwback) but the food was good and the staff friendly and efficient. in fact, in general, the staff were all very friendly.
Five minutes before checking out on the final morning (around 7 am - good job we weren't trying to have a lie-in) the housekeeping manager came to the room to apologise. Too little, too late I'm afraid.
