This gîte has only two rooms, but both are beautiful. Marie-France has made sure that every detail is attended to. We stayed in the smaller rose-colored room, which was nicely appointed with tasteful décor. We had a chance to peek into the green room, which was also beautiful, and had a much larger bathroom attached. Since the area is rural, not a sound interrupted our sleep.
The Bearn hospitality is immediately apparent when you arrive. Marie-France and Bernard made us feel like friends of the family. Marie-France always made sure we had everything we needed. One evening, when we decided to relax and enjoy a picnic dinner in the garden, she set us up with plates, flatware, and a corkscrew for our wine. Bernard spoke English, and was always happy to provide tips and driving directions around the area. Once, when we were looking for a shop to purchase cheese, he sketched out a map to the woman down the road who sold cheese at her farm. What an experience to purchase cheese straight from the tiny room next to the cows that had produced it!
The countryside here is bucolic. Green is the color that comes to mind when I think about our stay here. Cows and horses dotted the hillsides at every turn. The cities of Bayonne and Biarritz are close enough for a day trip, where we spent the day seeing the cities and enjoying lunch.
If you are looking for a place to kick back, relax and enjoy a beautiful corner of France, this gîte is an ideal base.
