“Good experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

I stayed in the hotel over New Year and really enjoyed the stay. The staff in the reception are all very helpful and the room with a great view and very clean. Beds excellent!! Breakfast buffet is good with something for everybody - but would have liked a good espresso instead of the machine coffee.
The area is very well kept and clean - except for the multisport court with small lava stones everywhere (can't be good for fitballs!!). Overall the sport facilities were very good but extremely difficult to get to a spinning class - have to sign up before 8 a.m. to be lucky to join the following day. I paid 10 € for swimming advanced instruction - worth the money - but I was lucky to be alone in the course.
I would have liked more classes of especially Kara-T-robics and fitball.
I can recommend to go for lunch in Las Playitas village.

“Best Sport Resort in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

Stayed a week with my husband and 2 teen boys at this fantastic place at Fuerteventura in october 2011. If you are a sport lover this is the place to be. Joing the classes during the day, or play some golf, tennis, fitnesscenter, spinning or runningcourse.
Everything worked out perfect. The hotelroom had a great view, and was like we expected, nothing luxurious but nice, clean and great beds!!
Meal was the only thing that was boring.. They had a big buffet everynight with everything, just too much. would have preffered a new theme every evening, mexican, spanish, italian, scandinavian etc. But at least i lost some kilos, and that was a part of the vacation....We will definately be back!!!!

“So disappointed, poor quality & expensive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

We stayed here for a week and couldn't wait to leave in the end. We were looking forward to a break that included sports/activities, good food and reasonable prices. The foolowing is pretty much what we found:

Accomodation: We booked a superior room, which was nice, but there were several issues: The Air conditioning was terrible, hardly any output and rattled like a can full of stones. Reported it twice but got no feedback. When I spoke to reception the second time, I was told that if I was too hot, I should just take the sheet off the duvet - really rude receptionist. The shower was also totally erratic temperature wise.

Food: This was probably the biggest disappointment for us, from a quality, price and choice point of view. We had paid for breakfast, which was a huge buffet affair. Like the previous review, I agree that there was too much food of a poor quality - watery yoghurt, bitter fruit etc. The 2 restaurants are Italian and Spanish. We tried the Italian twice, the first we ordered lasagne and spaghetti carbonara. The lasagne was a block of 6 layers of stodgy pasta with hardly any sauce, the carbonara was initially brought out as bolognaise(beige coloured), when we explained it was not the dish we ordered, the waitress was disbelieving, 2 mins later a dish of cold pasta with a lukewarm scoop of white liquid was plonked in front of us.. yuck! The second time we had pizza - definitely not fresh as we had the exact same pizza at the poolbar 3 days later, definitely defrosted!! The Spanish restaurant was only slightly better. Overall, the price of everything was very high, we are not mean, but €2.80 for a twix ice cream from the bar is terrible, especialy when its €1.80 in the shop. A large coke (spraygun) was €4.00.etc etc!!

Classes: All done outside on a basketball court, but wth no shade cover!! The first 3 days the temp was averaging 30c.. totally unpleasant to do step aerobics etc in these conditions.

Rental equipment: We wanted to rent bikes for a day. As mentioned, heat was intense so wanted to go either early am or late pm. Not possible as rental times were collection at 0930 -return 1730. Another word on RENTAL: there are 3 tabletennis tables at the poolbar. We asked at reception to borrow/rent bats+ball, only to be told they had to be BOUGHT!! I think this really says it all about the spirit of ripping people off!

Pool area/sunbeds: There are 2 leisure pools. Both have really poor quality sunbeds which sag so badly that you are lying on the frame of metal bars, so uncomfortable. The pool nearest the hotel is also so packed that your face is literally 1.5 feet away from the next rows' feet! Really uncomfortable. There is also the usual issue of towels being placed seemingly in the middle of the night taking 90% of the beds, despite signs saying towels would be removed if this is done.

Overall, a really disappointing place. Another point to make is that we only realised on arrival that the resort really is only actively marketed to German/Danish/Spanish people. This is evident in the agent folders in the hotel - approx 12 different operators, all from these countries. TV also had 2 channels out of 12 in English. We were not there for TV but its just an example of the focus. We also found the reception staff mostly to be unhelpful. When we asked for a recommendation for restaurants/bars in the local area, we were told they wouldn't give us any information as "we have our own restaurants" In all my years travelling, I have never been told this by a hotel - totally unhelpful. We did find a couple of seafood places in the local village which were much better priced and better quality than anything Playitas had.

Overall, I would say be very wary booking here unless food/drink is not important to you and all you want to focus on is exercise!!

“Nice location, clean rooms, meals of changing quality, service an issue to be addressed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

If this is a 4-star hotel (as the travel agent indicates) I don't know which scale to use for a luxury boutique hotel? Well, location is nice, the rooms are nice, neat and clean and so are the pool areas, the beach and the garden surroundings.

The morning and dinner buffet offers a wide range of food for families and sports athletes but nothing really tasteful or delicious. I'd prefer higher food quality and less variety. Pool bars offers only a few (bad quality) dishes for lunch.

With a few exceptions, service is an issue that management should address. So is the organisation of the sports facilities and activities. Could be improved if wi-fi were an option for the quests in order for them to book activities/facilities on their android phones.

“Playitas - Great destination for fitness enthusiasts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2011

My wife and I stayed at Cala Del Sol Hotel (aka Playitas Hotel,), Fuerteventura for w/c 14 April 2011. We were a little apprehensive about booking an unknown resort but it got a good writeup in a Mail on Sunday article so we googled it and booked with Trips 4 Fitness (http://www.trips4fitness.com/) who were very helpful (thanks Mike!) We travelled out with Ryanair which was on time, but expensive and packed with frequent objectionable exhortations to buy their stupid scratchcards, phone cards, smokeless cigarettes etc. Did they think we were total morons?

After a smooth transfer to the resort arranged by Trips 4 Fitness, we were delighted to find how spacious the

hotel was. We have nothing but praise for the resort which comprised the l Hotel, apart-hotel, villas and the fitness facilities.

Our room was modern and spacious with bathroom comprising bath, toilet, basin and shower, bedroom with

comfortable beds, fridge and balcony with mountain view, sun loungers and clothes dryer, and a lounge with desk, chairs and sofabed.

The buffet breakfast and buffet dinner were very good - no complaints there, but don't expect waiter service. Water was 2 euros for a small bottle, or 3.40 euros for 0.5l of Dorado lager.

For lunch we quickly discovered the bar restaurants at Playitas village, 2 minutes walk along the beach if the tide was out.

There's also a good, though basic supermarket on site, that sold fresh bread, and German lager for 0.99Euro a half-litre.

The activities schedule was excellent with about 14 hours of activities ranging from spinning to dance classes.

We typically went for a mountain run at 7am, breakfast, some time at the pool and then spinning classes in the

evening. The gym was well equipped with dozens of machines of all types. The 50m pool was in continual use so

we didn't get a chance to try it. The hotel pool was great but not ideal for lengths as it was more a leisure

pool. There were plenty of sun beds but some were sagging a bit. The quality of instruction was excellent and we really enjoyed spinning classes with view of the Atlantic. Make sure you are in the shade! For those into Spinning, the bikes were Schwinn and probably near end of life.

Mostly the clientele and instructors were Scandinavian or German but all classes are in English so this isn't a problem at all. The staff were very friendly whatevery their nationality.

We stayed a week and this was probably enough. Not sure there's enough variety for two weeks but that's a personal choice.

A downside to the resort was lack of free wi-fi internet access. Come on guys - it's expected these days!
