My husband and I chose to get married at Tenuta di Lupinari in August 2008, and we secured the rental of the entire village for the week of our wedding. We were joined by our family and friends for the most amazing and wonderful week, everyone without exception fell in love with Lupinari and we had a perfect stay and a perfect wedding day. Our wedding photographers (who live in Italy) were blown away by the location and the beautiful buildings and gardens, and declared it one of the loveliest wedding spots they had visited.
Tenuta di Lupinari is owned by the Pellegrino family, who have lovingly renovated the buildings over the years with a labour of love, and still manage the property all year road. The grounds are impeccably maintained with beautiful gardens and flowers. The pool area is spotlessly clean and so quiet and peaceful, with views across the valley.
Antonella Pellegrino was our wedding planner, and she was on hand all week and did everything possible to accommodate our many requests and our over excitable guests. She got married herself at Lupinari, which says a lot about the perfection of the place!
The reception is open during set hours during the day, and happy to provide you with restaurant bookings, day trips, help with car hire, bike hire, spa bookings, supermarket directions, post or fax or literally just about anything you need or want.
As you approach the Lupinari village on a long cypress lined road, you can see the tower of the castle in the distance. It is very quiet as you drive past the vineyards and the old farm buildings at the bottom of the estate. The Pellegrino family still make their own wine and there is a fishing lake on the estate too.
Arriving in the little car park, you are immediately struck by the peace and the quiet & the feeling of immediate relaxation. Being completely set in its own grounds, there is no traffic noise for miles around (of course, you need a car to be here as it is not possible to easily walk to nearby village or restaurants).
The apartments at Lupinari used to be the servants/farm workers accommodation adjoined to the castle in years gone by, and are now beautifully and sympathetically renovated. As other reviewers pointed out, this means that some apartments have shared bathrooms (so more suited to families) but just check the apartment details before booking your selected our apartment. My husband and I stayed at La Loghetta which is set back, very private and a lovely terrace. We visited each apartment (obviously, as all our friends and family were living in them!) and they each have individual charm and appeal depending on your needs. The style is rustic and authentic Italy, spotlessly clean and well maintained and with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Each apartment has its own terrace with seating area. Some terraces are more private than others - so make sure you ask if this is something important to you. La Terrazza is a fantastic apartment for friends sharing, with 2 huge living areas and a massive terrace with elevated views. La Belvedere is beautiful with a huge ground floor terrace area and garden (but one bathroom, as another reviewer pointed out). La Granaio is our favourite apartment for 2 sharing, with a gorgeous beamed bedroom and quiet sitting terrace overlooking the pool.
Within the reception building there are B&B rooms, which are spacious and beautifully appointed. On most nights of the week, Lupinari provides the option of a set menu dinner at fixed price, which was welcome for many guests who didn't fancy cooking in their apartment and the food is lovely and wine is provided. Its not "mind blowingly fantastic" but at the price you are not expecting it to be! Sitting out on the terrace with candles and smelling the flowers & a slight breeze in the air with no sound for miles around...absolutely bliss.
The castle area itself is still owned and lived in by the family, although we believe there may be plans to turn it into further B&B rooms. The nearby town of Bucine has everything you need in terms of banks, supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, although it is not a "pretty" Italian town in the way Montepulciano or San Gimignano would be described. It is a functioning Italian town with a lot of heart and body. But you are in a very central location here for reaching a zillion beautiful locations in Tuscany and Umbria, yet away from the super-touristy areas which often put you near busy auto strada links and main roads. We loved and adored Lupinari for the very fact that it is off the beaten track and like a perfect oasis.
Sigh...I could go on for hours. I have attached photos including some of our wedding day, but even the photos don't do justice. In case you were left in any doubt....we highly, highly recommend Lupinari for a relaxing, beautiful, quiet and authentic Italian stay. Ideal for couples and families and groups of friends alike. Enough room on the estate to find your own space and enjoy the peace and quiet. Close enough to all major attractions to allow easy day tripping. Perfect and unobtrusive service for anything you need. Great comms and easy booking, excellent value prices for rental.
Please message me through TA if you have any questions, very happy to be honest and help as I know how stressful it is when searching for the perfect place for your Italian vacation.
Big thank you to Antonella and Salome, and to the Pellegrino family. We had a perfect stay and a wedding we shall treasure forever. R&R xx
