“Nice but at a price!”

Really enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel. The food, on every occasion, was exceptional and we found the staff most obliging if you wanted something different. We stayed in a Residence room rather than the hotel, which was by far the best option as you don't get the early morning disturbances normally found in a hotel however the Residence rooms vary considerably from one to the other. We didn't find out quite how much until 2 days before we came home and saw the interior of the apartment 2 doors down from ours which was literally twice the size with lounge area, walk in wardrobe and huge bathroom. It turned out our room had been split in 2 and had a dividing room which could be used for families if required.
We found the staff friendly and helpful although the pool attendants seemed somewhat reluctant to walk round the pool area to service drink requirements. In fact our major gripe of the whole holiday was the price of drinks at the hotel. Having to pay 30 euros for a bottle of wine everynight and outrageous prices for soft drinks begins to stick in your throat somewhat when you are staying for 2 weeks. The hotel could also benefit from some additional entertainment from the somewhat tiresome pianist with his repetitive reportoire, and for heavens sake don't attempt to play cards in the piano bar - this earned us an appalled look from the senior bar man! On the whole we had a lovely holiday and would return to the hotel but definitely for no more than a week only.

Room Tip: Don't get Room 401 in the Residence - half the size with a thin dividing door

“La Bisaccia beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

we returned a week ago after a fantastic week away.
We stayed in room 217 in the residence and the room was fresh and bright and clean and with a large bathroom that inc bath with over shower, toilet, sink and vanity unit and bidet. There was plenty of room and not dark or dingy at all.
The food was out of this world and would be considered fine dining and would recommend dressing smartly for dinner although other nationalities didnt, one female guest wore jeans and a hoodie!! 5 courses with 4 or five choices of each and the selection was diverse and very mediterranean, with lots of fabulous fish dishes which my husband absolutely loved. There werent many children there but the ones who were there were italian and they ate from the same menu as the grown ups which is the continental way---only the British would expect chips and nuggets and beans for their children. I was brought up in an Italian household where we always ate as adults do and didnt have a kids menu. There was a buffet of many salads as well as the five courses ordered from the menu. Lunchtime was much the same but with a more varied buffet plus two pasta type dishes and then a set menu of 2/3 fish dishes & 2 meat which was ordered from the maitre'd that seated you at your table.
The hotel had its own spot on the soft sandy beach with lots of beds and the water was the most amazing colour. We swam every day and even snorkelled and saw a few different types of fish near the rocks to the right of the beach. The other part of the beach was full with lots of families and children playing and swimming and having fun which was great fun to watch. We didnt use the private coves that the hotel has through its gardens as we preferred the bustle and room on the beach but the gardens were beautiful and the view over the bay was breathtaking as was the view from our room.
One negative of the main beach was the number of sellers allowed to come into the hotels private section. We didnt mind them selling their wares as it was interesting to watch them but some wouldnt take a polite no or then take note of the fact that you tried to ignore them or then pretend to be asleep. We tried everything to be polite but I resorted to a 'vi via' to get some to leave us alone.
Sometimes there were 8 sellers coming up and down the hotels section of the beach and we got really fed up of them by the end of the week. The lifeguard would move them on occasionally but only if they sat down on an empty sunbed! Considering one guest at dinner considered this hotel of a high enough standard to complain to a member of the waiting staff who forgot to pour a drink that they had served them, the the hotel shouldnt allow this amount of hassle to happen to their guests. Also it is illegal to knowingly buy an item that is a fake and also you dont get a receipt which is again a biggie in Italy. Sometimes you will get stopped outside of a shop and asked by an inspecto to show the receipt for your purchase and you have to make sure you have it as both the consumer and shop is considered jointly liable.
So this really surprised us also when you think of the price of the holiday. This was the only negative of the holiday and did not in any way spoil it for us.
Most of the staff were wonderful and very helpful. One male reception staff was a bit grouchy even when we tried our best to be really nice to him and I speak reasonable Italian and one maitre'd was a bit aloof but the restaurant staff in the main were some of the nicest people we have met. They interacted with us and corrected and complimented my Italian and were great fun to be served by.

There was a little piazza a few minutes walk away along the promenade with a dozen shops inc a couple of designer bags and shoe shops and a couple of gift type shops plus a few cafes and restaurants. Each night, the cafes and restaurants were full with the Italian holidays makers from other b & bs and hotels taking their dinner and we would take a passeggiata each night after dinner and watch them and the world go by.
There were more shops up the main road away from the bay and then more at the top with the supermarket which we used most days to buy soft drinks to fill out fridge in the room.

The price of cokes, soft drinks and water were 4e 50c per small bottle coke or large bottle of water and similar for beer I think in the hotel and you could get frozen granitas on the beach for 3e from a man pushing a cart or ice cream cones in the town for 2e 50. This might seem expensive to some but this is Sardinia and these are the prices that you will pay.
We had lovely weather interspersed with one afternoon of rain and one huge storm that cut out the electrics as we were eating, all the guests were laughing whilst eating by candlelight and the staff just carried on as normal with no panic and after about 30 mins and 3 attempts the electrics came back on and stayed on!
We took the bus to Porto Cervo for 2 20c each single no return and we had to buy the tickets on the bus as the shop didnt have them anymore. The bus driver was rude because all the tourists inc us were holding him up as he had to write tickets for 8 people. On the way back, everyone caught the same bus back ( only so much time can be spent looking at huge yachts) and this time he was worse and took our money but told us to sit down without a ticket as he would right one out later ( told to me in Italian with other people asking me what he had said). I know it is an offence in Italy not to have a ticket and is considered the passengers responsibilty to make sure they get a ticket even if you have been told to sit down on the bus after paying and if an inspector got on we would have all been thrown off but the bus driver would not write tickets for any of us then but luckily no inspector got on.

Room Tip: email before going but make sure you pay for a sea view on booking

“We thought it was lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

We took a family holiday here with our 3 children - 2 teenages and a 9 year old, booked through Citalia.
We were given rooms 211 and 219. Room 211 (twin) had a breathtaking view. Room 219 (triple) was large and would've had a great view of the sea if it had not been obscured by a large tree.
I understand some of the other travellers comments about the bathrooms being small and dark, but this didn't worry us too much. I mean how much time do you spend in a bathroom? We actually liked the rustic charm of the place and everything was always spotlessly clean.
The food was incredible - fresh, imaginative, lots of choice. One night there was a Gala dinner which was fabulous.
I'm not sure how suitable the hotel meals are for very young children, since there are no kids meals or early meal times, and certainly no "nuggets and chips". I think this is an English preference though because there were several Italian children there who managed fine.
The staff were all friendly and helpful and the hotel was small enough that they remembered you and your favourite drinks!
Small grumbles - the nightly piano player was a bit dull and maybe some more varied entertainment could've been laid on; agree that some rooms need updating, although I would hate for the place to be modernised too much; the wine was expensive.
Overall we had a lovely time and would certainly return.

“Good but could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

Arrived on a wet day which was not typical for the area. Given Room 219 which was awful, barely 3 star let alone 4. Chipped doors, shoddy bathroom dark and dingy and air conditioning which was noisly and old. Complained to Cititalia and demanded a new room as we were here for 10 days. 2 days later were shown a junior suite in the residences which was far better and up to 4 star grade. However staff lived below this suite, room 515, and they were noisy after midnight so had to complain again - not what you come on holiday to do!!!!

The food is good at lunch and dinner and the service also good on the whole. Some waiters are spot on particularly the women, some of the men a little more lazy. 3- 4 courses which always have a meat and a fish. The ice cream is fabulous. Wine typical sardinian prices at least double what you would pay in the shops. However it tastes good much better than anything you would get in the uk. The position of the hotel is very good. Perched on a hill with many little bays you can walk to and swim from in clear safe water. There is a even a tiny bay for 2 with 2 sunloungers on it. Beach also good with lots of activity in August including traders. The pool is large and the sunloungers plentiful but hard to lay on. The grounds are well kept and if you drive loads of parking. This place could be fabulous but needs some money spending on it from BAJA hotels to make it the best hotel in baia and one to keep returning to.

Room Tip: A residence room which is on the 2nd floor away from where staff live

“Very good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

My wife and I spent two weeks at La Bisaccia after reading favourable reviews and were not disappointed. As previously mentioned there was always fish included in the menu, but as there was around 5 choices per course this was not a problem.
We were upgraded to full board and to be honest we could not manage the full lunch on offer. The menu choices were varied and should have suited most tastes although there were a couple of disgruntled guests (British) who really should have stayed at home not really wanting to be amongst foreigners and their ways.
We found the staff to be most helpful and courteous when we required assistance.
The resort of Baia Sardinia is quite small and quiet and might not suit all, but if you're looking for a 'chill out' in nice surroundings this is ideal.
The pool and beach areas are more than adequate and we always found an ideal spot without any problem.
There is a local bus service to Porto Cervo if you wish to view how the other half live.
We have visited most parts of Italy and this was easily the most laid back region and sparsely populated. There is no old town attched to Baia Sardinia which meant my wife missed out on the evening stroll through the back streets in search of the next Furla purchase. There are a few local shops and a supermarket for vital supplies, also a weekly visit from a small market.
