While in Munich last week, we decided to take a couple of days and tour the Bodensee area. We made a quick reservation online to this hotel, admittedly without the usual time spent on hotel selection prior to trips. We have been very fortunate over the years with European hotels - cannot recall a truly bad one.
We knew we were in trouble upon arrival at a deserted, unkempt looking building, much different from the lovely hotels in the area. The room was tiny, dirty and smelly. The bath was tiny, old and smelly. For the first time in our forty years of travel, we left, fully knowing our charge for the room was unrefundable. There was no cholce but to leave, staying was never an option. Though they had no rooms available, the beautiful Gasthof Sternen down the road had room prices the same as the Hotel Seerose. We ended up paying 40 euros more and had a beautiful deluxe room with huge balcony at the gorgeous Hotel Seehof directly on the water in the center of town.
