“Get to Plat and sorroundings before it´s too late”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2010

The ad from the Croatian tourist board:"The Medeterranian Sea, as it used to be" is not exaggerated, but exactly to the point, when talking Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Bay, south of Dubrovnik itself.
While Dobrovnik probably needs no further introduction, Dubrovnik Bay certainly may. Just go there, the sooner the better, development will not wait for you. The area is not yet built up and is precisely like the Mediterrainain in the old days. If you stay at Plat Villas apartments or the Orphee Hotel in the same Plat complex, you will most probably be satisfied. The Plat complex is quiet, with several pleasant beaches within close reach. Tourist boats will take you to and from Dubrovnik and to and from other interesting towns like Cavtat and Mlini. Good restaurants in every town, fish and seafood prepared with respect.

Yes the airport is quite close, good, not really disturbing in Plat, but fine view of descending and ascending planes, yes.

And the local people: very welcoming, kind and English speaking, but not the kind to be kicked around, and why should you...

The Dubrovnik Bay area suffered unbelievable destruction during the attack on Dubrovnik in the early 90´s. Because almost everything has been restored since then, you´ll not notice the damage of the shelling immediately, but once you do, it will ad further to your travelling experience.

“WHAT A FANTASTIC HOLIDAY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

We had such a good holiday. The locals and staff are so friendly and very helpful, especially at the Plat reception. We stayed in Villa Barbara, which is one of the four apartment blocks that have been nicely renovated. Self Catering is basic, which we utilised during lunch, with a glass of wine on the balcony, listening to the waves in the background. We had taken food with us to eat some meals in, however there ae so many nice places to eat in Dubrovnik and Cavtat that we didn't bother. Self catering = 2 rings, a couple of pans, obviously cups, plates etc and a very small fridge. We would recommend eating one night in the taverna, as you get 15% discount and it is very romantic, as it looks over the Adriatic Sea. We spent alot of our time on the pebble beach right of the apartments, which is nice and quiet, however there is another beach to the left, which has it's own bar. You can walk up to the road to catch the bus, which goes past both ways Dubrovnik - Cavtat) every half hour and will cost you just over a pound each way. Note: There is a short cut up to the road, which you will find at the top apartment block on the right - saves you about 10 minutes walk. Cavtat is really nice - food is excellent, as is dubrovnik. We went on the 3 Island boat trip with the Adriana Company - such a lovely day - £30 each, with a free taxi ride to dubrovnik (boat taxi), free lunch and free local drinks all day :) We had a fab time. Have been going to Turkey for the last four years, but this was something different. Must warn you though, that there is a lot of evidence of the past war in the 90's - but that just reminds us of how lucky we are and how hard the locals have worked to rebuild such a beautiful country.

“Fantastic”

We have just had a lovely week away in the clean, friendly and relaxing location of the Vilas plat/ hotel Orphee accommodation.
The staff were friendly and very helpful the accommodation appeared to be newly refurbished and was cleaned daily.
We were self catering so only had several meals here which were all nice enough but we tended to go to Konoba King a small family restaurant up the hill towards the main road the food and service here was wonderful. We also went into Cavtat and Dubrovnik which is easy to do by bus 9( kunas) Yes the location is quiet but this suited us as trips out were really no hassle. The pool was great no sunbed hogging which was nice!!!!! the little beaches surrounding the hotel were also really lovely, Croatia really has alot to offer it is beautiful.

“Unfriendly hotel personnel”

This hotel is absolutely not customer oriented. The rooms are nice but, the hotel personnel are not friendly, indeed they can be very hostile. They are just like SS soldiers. I filed my complaints several times; during my visit and after my visit. However the hotel management did not reply my complaints, they just ignored it. I won't visit hotel villa plat ever!

“wonderful plat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2008

Visited croatia for the 1st time this year. Took advice on the reviews and went ahead with our choice of Villas Plat. We weren't disappointed. Plat itself was a few houses and a shop, but the Hotel Orphee/Villas Plat complex was superb. Spacious and spotlessly clean rooms, although air-conditioning would be a bonus in the high season. The only down side was the self-catering facilities in the smaller apts were totally inadequate, not a problem for us, but if you plan on some meals in, these apts are not for you.
Superb pool area and contrary to some reports, no local charge for the loungers
The small on site bistro offers excellent food at very reasonable prices and if you fancy something a little less basic, there is a beautiful restaurant in the nearby taverna
Nearby Cavtat is easily accessible by local bus (No10) , though this does involve a lengthy uphill walk to the main road, but does offer spectacular views of the bay. Better to take a boat taxi there and the bus back from the small but easy to find bus station...........the boat taxi is brilliant, but do not pay a return fare as different boat companies will not accept your ticket....simply pay each way...........same applies if travelling to Dubrovnik, although there is a bus comes into the complex which will drop you off outside the main gate to the old town.
Cavtat is a good bit cheaper than Plat for both food and drink and offers a good selection of great restaurants and bars, the local bus running until after midnight.......the circular walk round the headland is a must
Dubrovnik old town is beautiful and the walk around the city walls costs aprox £5 but is more than worth the cost, time and effort
By my own limited experience, i would not recommend a stay in Dubrovnik..........it' very busy, expensive and a lot of the accommodation seems a long way from the sea front.
Take advantage of the day trips on offer.........Moster in Bosnia and Montenegro in particular. Whilst a little on the pricey side, well worth doing. The history, both old and recent, is fascinating and the scenery absolutely stunning
Don't expect everything to be'' cheap as chips'', but in general you'll get good value for your money with most things you choose to see and do
One added bonus is that the local populace are the most affable and helpful people you could ever meet and genuinely so.
