“A great base for a holiday!!!!”

This place is the ideal place to base a holiday in the southern part of Croatia.

I stayed here for 5 nights with my girlfriend and was really impressed by the complex. It is a collection of Villas housing approx 20 apts each, and an hotel. It is clean, and well run with mostly friendly staff. The rooms aren't the biggest, BUT are clean, and well ventilated with a good sized balcony. The swimming pool area is also clean and well maintained, with an abundance of sun loungers even though it was peak season. The swimming pool itself is salt water and perfect for seasoned swimmers AND children with a shallow end and a kiddies area! It also has absolutely amazing sea views!

There were also plenty of facilities on site including 3 bars and four separate restaurants all of which were reasonably priced.

Villas plat is only 15 mins from the airport, and only 15 mins (in the opposite direction) from Dubrovnik. The hotel provide a shuttle bus in and out to the city running approx 7 times per day. there were also plenty of day trips etc including trips to montenegro, mostar, medjugorje and island hopping trips. We used plat as a base for our holiday, spending two days in Dubrovnik and three by the pool before bus-ing to Mostar for 3 nights.

We were so happy with our time here that we changed our plans to come back here for two more nights after our trip to mostar!

Overall i could only recommend Villas Plat, the shop on site is a wee bit expensive, and some staff can come across as being rude, however not enough to put me off this destination and I will definitely return here sometime.

“A great base for our holiday”

We stayed here for a week in August (2011) and as with most hotels for us it was a place to stay and not the destination and for that purpose it was more than adequate. We stayed in one of the villas/apartments which is up a steep flight of steps, not a problem at all for us but worth noting for those less mobile. The room was clean and spacious and our balcony had a beautiful view out to sea and watching the sun going down over the mountains poking into the sea was fantastic.

The pool (sea water) was always full up early but again this was not an issue for us but if you are a pool person then this info may be useful. Instead when we wanted to swim we took short strolls to the stony beaches that populate the coast. They are stony too so it is worth investing in those swimming shoes. The sea around here is beautiful with lots of fish, why not do what we do and take some bread to feed the fish!

The hotel grounds are lovely and clean and as on the whole the staff are very friendly although there was one particular woman who worked at the bistro who was very abrupt and could not raise a smile. However the reception staff were helpful at all times.

Getting about is easy with shuttles to Dubrovnik from the hotel, although beware that if the shuttle is full when it comes to pick you up then you may have to wait for the next one. If you want to use local transport then take the shortcut to the main road by walking up past the apartments and then past the rented house.

Food is ok on the site but nothing special but we had breakfast in our apartment every day and dinner a couple of times too so it was not much of a problem.

Overall the Orphee gave us a good basis to enjoy this region of Croatia, it would be limited if you planned to simply stay by the pool for the whole of your stay but if like us you are using it as a base for your holiday then it is ideal.

“A good value resort near Dubrovnic, very relaxing setting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

Villas Plat is actually a group of 4 or 5 apartment/hotel blocks centered around a shared pool, beack and reception. We stayed in the Villa Barbara block which while a little dated, was clean and well appointed, nice balcony and a spacious room.

The plus points: Lovely pool area as well as a great private beach and designated swimming/sunbathing area on the rocks. The location is about half an hour from Dubrovnic so it is very peaceful and relaxed and is a good contrast to the crowds and bustle of Dubrovnic city itself. Great views of the sea from the balcony. There is a shuttle bus to the old town which is especially convenient. Nice restaurants on site that are decent value considering the captive audience.

The down sides: No air con in the room - only accomodation we didn't have it in Croatia and we really missed it! Some general maintainance is needed e.g. wobbly beds and broken TV remote and the housekeeping is a little lacklustre e.g. used coffee cups aren't washed and beds aren't made (just the sheets folded and left in a pile). No major problems but some polishing needed.

Overall we liked this place, it was OK ... I probably wouldn't go back but we did enjoy our stay and I'd say that it is genuinely average - does what it says on the tin, you won't be massively impressed but you probably won't be disappointed either.

On an interesting point, Villas Plat is surrounded by other hotels that were damaged in the 1991 - 1995 war and were subsequently abandoned. It's unnerving as you arrive and see so many bullet riddled and derelict buildings, but we found it a poigniant reminder of the country's history and once inside the resort you can't see these buildings. It's a strange surrounding and one that might put some people off, but really not something that should deter you from staying in this perfectly adequate accommodation.

Room Tip: Villas Plat is actually a group of 5 different apartment/hotel blocks - best ask which you are in be...

“10km outside Dubrovnik right on the coast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2011

We stayed 1 day in Dubrovnik and used this Hotel. It is a series of 4 storey blocks of flats very well set within garden and right on the coast with a clean cove for use. Good Holiday setting near the main roadm but down the hill and thus no noise. Easy for the Airport and the Hotel runs a shuttle service down to Dubronik.

Rooms were clean, spacious, the furniture was fine and most had a good balcony. If you are not a smoker make sure you indicate when reserving.

We had a good 1 night stopover, but I would have also used it as a good base for touring the area.

“Get to Plat and sorroundings before it´s too late”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2010

The ad from the Croatian tourist board:"The Medeterranian Sea, as it used to be" is not exaggerated, but exactly to the point, when talking Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Bay, south of Dubrovnik itself.
While Dobrovnik probably needs no further introduction, Dubrovnik Bay certainly may. Just go there, the sooner the better, development will not wait for you. The area is not yet built up and is precisely like the Mediterrainain in the old days. If you stay at Plat Villas apartments or the Orphee Hotel in the same Plat complex, you will most probably be satisfied. The Plat complex is quiet, with several pleasant beaches within close reach. Tourist boats will take you to and from Dubrovnik and to and from other interesting towns like Cavtat and Mlini. Good restaurants in every town, fish and seafood prepared with respect.

Yes the airport is quite close, good, not really disturbing in Plat, but fine view of descending and ascending planes, yes.

And the local people: very welcoming, kind and English speaking, but not the kind to be kicked around, and why should you...

The Dubrovnik Bay area suffered unbelievable destruction during the attack on Dubrovnik in the early 90´s. Because almost everything has been restored since then, you´ll not notice the damage of the shelling immediately, but once you do, it will ad further to your travelling experience.
