“Secluded, stunning and relaxing.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012 via mobile

My wife and I are now home a week and all we talk about is how beautiful and relaxing our stay was at Tang Mar. If you want to be in a place that is away from it all this is the place.
Our room looked out onto a very secluded beach, at night we watched the waves bioluminese blue/green as they rolled onto the beach. The reasturant was excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The owner Hida, was charming and would greet us every day.
This is not the place for night life but if you want to sip tropical drinks looking out over a palm tree lined beach while swinging in you hammock this is the place!

“Close to the beach but go out to eat!”

We drove from Playa Samara, which took about an hour longer than expected as the dirt road over the mountain was longer than anticipated... no problem though as a typical rental car (not 4 wheel drive handeled it well enough). Rooms were nice and clean in the building that was closest to the beach. I can understand the reviews for the tiki huts as they are private and more expensive, but not directly on the beach. Pool was nice, walk to water fall was not strenuous, but take water and where tennis shoes, not sandles. There is some minor rock climbing to get to the beach, but if I can do it, anybody can!

Biggest complaint was the food. The sushi was horrid! so we ended up drinking the first night instead of eating. Second night, food was just bad. My wife sent hers back and they took it off the bill with no problems. Drinks by the pool were good though and the bartenders were very accommodating. Would not want to stay more than a couple of days here as Costa Rica has so much more to offer. Best thing here was the views at sunset!

Room Tip: Stay in the building closest to the beach that has a few floors like a typical hotel. Stay on secon...

“Not bad, had its problems....”

Upon arrival the place looked nice. Nice lobby & restaurant area. There is a pool table but it is pretty worn out and the pool cue's are a little bent so if you enjoy pool, you will be disappointed. The beach is great and the water is warm. The rooms were clean but they do have an issue with red ants in the 3-story complex on the beach where I stayed. Each room has a balcony and fairly comfortable beds and the air conditioner worked great. However, the shower head in my room was half plugged and I woke up to have a shower and the resort was out of water so I couldn't. Another day I ran out of water mid-shower. Also you have to throw toilet paper in the garbage as apparently the pipes are too small to flush toilet paper. One other thing, don't expect the wireless internet to work. I only had it work in my room briefly. Other than that I had to use 1 of the 2 computers available in the lobby area which worked great.

I like to walk along the beach at night but there are no lights except for one small area so I didn't feel comfortable doing that or going out to sit in a chair to enjoy the ocean in the pitch dark.

One thing I have enjoyed in other locations is having the pool bar open late. This one closes at 5 so enjoying the pool and having some drinks is not possible into the evening. The main bar closes at 10 p.m which is fine.

As far as dining goes the breakfast is good and the lunches are not bad. For dinner one night I ordered a steak medium-well but it arrived very, very rare. This might be the way they cook steaks here because at another resort I tried the steak on 2 occasions and both times it arrive extremely rare. Anyway I had to send it back and when it came back it was good. Other than that the dinners were great. The owner comes around to each table during dinner and makes sure your stay is going well which is a great thing for her to do.

They advertise they have a gym here but there is only a small room with 2 treadmills and an elliptical. There are Zero weights, or anything else you would expect to see in a gym.

Another small thing that was annoying is the room keys. It is a regular key attached to a large piece of wood. If you leave and have to have this thing in your pocket it is very annoying. Credit card style room keys and locks should be installed.

Overall not a bad place. Great staff and a great owner but definitely not a 5 star resort and it could improve here and there on the small stuff.

Room Tip: If you want ocean front be ready to hear the ocean all night. I like that but some light sleepers ma...

“WOULD LOVE TO GO BACK!”

We stayed one night at this hotel and it was a full day of adventure, only because we wanted to explore. Has access to 1 of 10 water falls that goes directly into the ocean (able to walk to it from the hotel), golfing, horses, lots of quiet beach time lying in a hammock or sitting by the pool. Pools are very clean and not crowded. Food is AMAZING. they have fresh caesar salad and that is the best salad i have ever had. Owner of the hotel came right up to us and introduced her self and thanked us for staying at the hotel. OHHH and the look out point is stunning!!! The only thing that dissapointed us was the 20 dollar taxing ride that was 7 minutes long from theTambor airport (best way to travel). The hotel will arrange this for you but it isn't free!

“Wonderful place, very friendly people, great ambience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We had been to Costa Rica for our Honeymoon and stayed in tango mar. One of the best hotels to stay in this country. Very friendly people and very good service. the beach facing setting is wonderful and gives a very tropical feeling. there are lots of activities that you can do close by and the hotel schedules package tours around if you will let them know in advance. They have good high speed internet as well to compliment.
