I stayed here with my sister f in Jan 2012. On arrival we were met with fresh towels and coconut juice - this set the tone of the level of service for our stay.From the owner to the bar staff - everyone made us so welcome and answered any questions we had. We stayed in a beach house a stones throw from the ocean. The house had more than everything we needed but with the bath warm ocean and a lovely cool pool 30 seconds away you dont need to spend much time in the room! Bedrooms had good sized fans and our fridge was restocked with fresh water each day. and our laundry was washed and returned without hassle. The food is outstanding!! We had fish, beef, soup, vegtarian options, lovely breakfast chocies and fresh fruit from the surrounding trees is always available!... I would highly reccommend the seafood platter!
Postcard perfect resort run and staffed by people who obviously enjoy being there.We did not encounter one issue while here.

My wife daughter & I stayed at the lodge for a week from 26th December 2011.

It was a nice relaxing contrast after going on Safari drives at the Ruaha National Park. The mangers, Candy & Graeme, were very welcoming and helpful as we're all the staff. All our laundry (a lot) was laundered at a very reasonable cost.

We flew in on a small plane to the local runway from Dar Es Salaam & I know our agent in the UK had the Tides Lodge book this part of our journey directly. Otherwise, you could end up with a flight to Tanga & more than an hour's car journey.

This is a small hotel, accommodating under 30 guests, but we found plenty to do,including diving and swimming in the pool and sandy, tree lined beach. The food was delicious - morning, lunch & evening and varied. Given the size of the hotel, they could be pretty flexible in what you had, if you gave an hour or two notice. We also enjoyed afternoon tea, with delicious orange cake (so much so that I am still after the recipe!).

We stayed in the Honeymoon suite - a beautiful stand alone wooden, thatched building on 2 floors - The Upepo (meaning wind in Swahili).

One thing to be aware of is bring insect repellant. Whilst the bedrooms have mosquito nets, the little pests can still get to you on the way to/from the bar/restaurant. This advice is pretty general for most parts of Tanzania, however.

I can only imagine this place gets better and better.
As you get picked up in a field with a bycyle rest as the " airport"by a chartered plane for 2, your picked up and driven around 30 minutes through towns and fields. Red dusty roads that are like a scene from a movie. Woman walking in the distance with big bundles palm leaves on their heads.
You arrive at the laid back dreamy resort of the tides. Every place has a sea view private bungalow on the beach.
Why would you come to Africa and stay in a big posh resort that has boring couples and a rubbish buffet every night when you can stay at the tides and have wonderfully home cooked food, interesting fun people and a beach to yourself.
One of the waiters (I forget his name) took us to his village. It was a fascinating fun trip and insight to local life in a fishermans village. One might we had a drink at the local bar too. It's a safe welcoming stretch of beach and highly recommended to anyone wanting a slice of real Africa.

We stayed at the Tides lodge in sept 2011 at the end of an amazing but also tiring safari.It was just barefoot paradise,exactly what we needed after our busy week.The food was superb and I can be quite picky.Graeme and Candy,the managers, were lovely and made us feel really at home.We took a boat across to a little sand island where one of the staff prepared our lunch while we snorkelled,we were lucky to be the only people on the island! beautiful! We were also lucky enough to see turtles hatching not far along the beach from Tides,part of a conservation project,David Attenborough stuff really!!Our beach front cottage was perfect,but we were upgraded to the honeymoon suite by the owner James,which was just the icing on the cake.We will definitely be back.
