We stayed two nights and did the all day kayak trip and what a great experience! Rick and Dorla make you feel right at home and do everything they can to make you feel comfortable.

The kayak trip was outstanding with Rick guiding you through the bays and inlets adding his expert knowledge on nature and history of the area. On our trip we encountered, Harbor Porpoises, Otters and various birds including Oyster Catchers and of course lots of Eagles. For lunch Rick picked various grasses, plants and kelp to add to a delicious seafood soup and homemade bread and cookies. The trip is limited to a small group with a maximum of eight people.

We stayed at one of the cabins overlooking the bay for two nights. It is well heated, clean, comfortable and has a kitchen with a stove, sink, microwave, refrigerator and kitchen supplies. Linens are supplied too. There is a nice clean outhouse next to the cabin. Plenty of fresh water is available. A gas grill is also provided on the deck to cook your catch for the day. A nice comfy queen bed is in the bedroom with linens and blankets provided. You are surrounded by lush forest and in the morning and evening you can hear the eagles "chattering" to each other in the distance. On the evenings we watch the spectacular sunset from the beach.

There is a bathhouse with a wood fired sauna where you can bathe and believe me you will feel so clean and relaxed after using it.

During our stay we hiked around the island, searched out sea-life and watched the Bald Eagles "compete" for their meals. Rick and Dorla can make arrangements to see others parts of the Kachemak and the state park. You can also rent out the Kayaks for evening trips on your own. In the evenings we enjoyed our time hearing Rick's stories and looking at the many nature pictures that he has amassed.

If you are looking for a peaceful, friendly sojourn this is it. We will never forget the great Alaskan experience that Rick and Dorla provided. Thank you!

The all day trip with Rick and Dorla was my first ever kayak trip. I'm not much of a water person, so the calmness of the areas we traveled to was a great experience for me. The two of them have a vast knowledge of the area and are so easy going. Even in a few hours, you feel like you have known them for years. You won't go wrong in booking a trip with them!

My husband and I stayed with Richard and Dorle last August and I am embarrasingly only just getting around to writing a review now that I sit here hot-as-can-be in Texas wishing I was back there! A Seaside Adventure is primarily a guided kayak tour outfitter in Homer (we stumbled upon them in a TA forum about kayaking). However, when we got in touch with them we found out that they also have a few cabins which are available to stay in - I can't recommend them highly enough on both accounts! As you can see from our pictures, we had quite an incredible Alaskan experience with them. It felt like we were staying with friends because they were so hospitable and the trip was so tailored to our interests.

We left Homer in the afternoon on a small boat that shuttled us out to their cabins on Little Tutka Bay, which Richard arranged for us. Once we got our stuff settled in the cabin we threw on some rubber boots and headed out to hike around the island for a couple hours. We never saw another soul and just really enjoyed the big open sky and beautiful wildnerness. For dinner, we cooked something up in the kitchenette in the cabin with supplies we brought with us from Homer. The next day we went on a full-day kayak trip with Richard and Dorle. What an INCREDIBLE day! We saw lots of interesting wildlife but that isn't what made the day so special....the best parts were just being out on the open water and seeing the incredible landscape and learning a wealth of information from Richard. He has such respect for and knowledge of the unique environment he is living in and really helped us appreciate everything we were seeing at a new level. He and Dorle really went above and beyond - we hit it off so well that on our second night there they even took us with them on some on some of their personal "errands" like going to check their crab pot (which turned out to have a big octopus in it instead!).

Basic details on the cabins: The cabins are pretty basic but are very clean , have bedding and basic kitchen supplies and most importantly have amazing views of the ocean and a sunset that was mesmerizing. Bathrooms are outside, no running water, but they keep them smelling fine and they are only a quick walk outside the cabin door.

Staying here and doing our kayak trip with them ended up being one of the most memorable parts of our trip. If you want to really experience Alaska, get away from the tourists and hitch a ride out to the cabins of A Seaside Adventure.
