“just wonderful”

The room we were in No 23 was basic and would have been nice to have had two bedside cabinets, needed updating really but on saying that, it is our only criticism of this hotel. It is spotless. Plenty of hot water fuffy white towels and lovely warm room. The food was fantastic a choice menu for dinner every evening complimentry scotch with haggis on our last evening just wonderful. Breakfast great the best fried eggs we've ever had in any hotel, thanks Simon! The dining room itself is lovely, tables had nice clean fresh table linen which is so important.
Now what can I say about the staff or where do I start ? They are all absolutely fantastic nothing was to much trouble, for instance our toilet seat broke, (screws just needed tightening) I reported it when we went down for breakfast and by the time we had eaten it was repaired unfortunatley it went again the following day, reported it again, went back to our room new seat being installed, well done.
Our waitresses were fabulous we had so much fun with them, after your first visit to the bar it was noted what you drank, next evening "your usual"? It made you feel so welcome.
Two nights of entertainment in the bar both very good but the husband and father of our waitresses had the edge, not only can he sing he's a very funny comedian.
We had a fantastic holiday and it's all down to the staff, they are without a doubt the loveliest of people and a lot of hotel staff at other hotels could learn a lot from them.

“Just beware the midges.”

Nice hotel set in its own grounds. Old lodge with a modern extension. Rooms were clean tho mine was dated as I was in the old part. Has nice dining room for individual guests but as we were a coach party we ate in the function room. Nice cosy bar with a good range of drinks.
Food was excellent, fresh trout one night and haggis etc on another.
Only one thing to moan about..... the midges in the grounds, they BITE!

“Friendly Highland Hotel”

Stayed here with Travelstyle on a 5 day "bargain break" in late August. The room was a little basic but was clean and tidy with fresh towels and tea/coffee being replenished every day, some of the rooms had been updated and these looked very nice. The food was excellent throughout our stay with a good and varied choice. Staff were always pleasant and caring and went out of their way to be helpful. I could easily return to the Lodge but this time would request an updated room!

“Sleep, eat, and enjoy the Lodge...”

As a teacher, I stayed here for only one night with a group of close to 30 well-behaved American high school students and several adult chaperones on an EF Tour of England and Scotland.

Rooms were spacious, especially when compared to often-cramped London accommodations. The decor was traditional, a mix of tartan and classic country. Facilities were en suite and in good working order, including a hot shower. Perhaps what I recall most fondly was the bed. The combination of a comfortable mattress and my exhaustion caused me to oversleep. Fortunately, the other chaperones told me it was fine to skip breakfast, something I wouldn't allow the students to do.

Meals (dinner and breakfast) were included as part of our tour, but choices weren't as limited as in other locations. It was not only plentiful and served with a smile, but allowed students to try a bit of authentic food. However, I can't say the black pudding was a big hit with everyone, especially after they were informed of the ingredients, but it triggered lots of laughter.

The Lodge was a required respite after a rather uninspired visit to Loch Ness where students were rushed through the commercial aspects. Hotel workers patiently provided helpful information for students using phone cards, even guiding them to a traditonal red phone booth just down Laggan Road/Main Street. The location was also less than a quarter-mile away from a small convenience/grocery store that came in handy for students to buy snacks and health/beauty items.

Surrounded by the rich, rugged Highland scenery, city life and schedules faded. Strolling on the street in front of the Lodge, I noticed we were the only ones outside in the evening. The reason became apparent with an attack of the midges (similar to biting gnats, difficult to see/smack, arriving in small armies). Many of us appeared to be doing a dance to escape them and return inside. Upon doing so, real dancing was provided by the hotel in the form of a traditional Scottish ceilidh with patron participation...wish I'd recorded that on video.

Overall, the Lodge was a big success for students and chaperones alike. The staff was attentive and polite, even with tired teenagers. Since the prices fit an EF tour, they must be good. Just remember to bring the insect repellent if you step outside on a summer evening! Otherwise, it's a natural setting for a Highland hike.
