This was our third visit in four years to this delightful inn on the banks of the Wye. We always have an overnight stay in the week before Christmas, when the Saracen's Head is cosy and Symonds Yat is blissfully quiet. If you're looking for full-blown luxury, this inn may not be for you. We like it because it is extremely comfortable, yet retains a casual atmosphere. There is none of the formality and pretentiousness found in many chichi country inns these days, particularly those in the nearby Cotswolds. Instead, the Saracen's Head is very friendly and welcoming and offers tremendous value for money. We again had Room 7, which had been refurbished and extended since our last visit two years ago. The plush, new bathroom would not have been out of place in a five-star hotel. Dinner was excellent, with many locally-sourced ingredients on the menu, and breakfast was better than many of London's top hotels that we have experienced. All told, fantastic value.
