“Modern, clean hotel with great views and friendly staff”

Stayed in Hotel Manglan for one week in July, half board.

We requested a room with a view of the Mar Menor and we were not disappointed. We had a room on the top floor, overlooking the pool and the sea. Was really nice sitting out on the balcony in the evening.

The food was good, especially the breakfast. The facilities were clean and well maintained.

The clientele were mostly spainish and over 50 but everyone was friendly and it meant you weren't disturbed at night. There are plently of bars along the strip if you want something a bit more lively. Zocco is only a ten minute walk away and there is always lots going on there at night - bars, cafes shops etc so we tended to walk down there after our evening meal if we weren't too tipsy from the free wine.

There is a place to hire bikes across the road and also bus stops nearby if you want to explore the strip. There are loads of nice beaches up and down the strip.

There is also a beach further down the strip were you can get this wierd clay stuff out of the sea bed and cover yourself in it. Not sure whether it actually has healing properties but it was a laugh all the same.

Cabo is definetly worth a visit. It has loads of nice restaurants and the market on a Sunday is good.

Overall, had a great holiday and would definetly visit the Mangalan again.

“Hotel Great - Resort was pants.”

Hotel La Mangalan was easy to find..... I parked about 100 metres up the street no problem, and when we checked into our room we were pleased with the standard of room - BIG bed, and modern design to the Hotel throughout. Also the balcony with table and chairs was great.... I was very pleased with the Value as it only cost us 70 Euro for the night, and we booked late. Pool was great, but as we were staying for 1 night my girlfriend did not get a chance to try out the Spa treatments. Only downside was that the Fridge in the room had only 2 bottles of water in it.... not the mini Bar stated in the brochure.

We have a family apartment elsewhere in Murcia so only stayed for one night, as we were wanting to try what La Manga had to offer..... we were disappointed - not with the Hotel - it was great - But La Manga in September is to be avoided.... from a distance accross the Mar Menor Lan Manga looks big and bustling, or when you are flying to/from Murcia it looks busy! the strip is 24km long.... and I drove up and down it numerous times. We struggled to find somewhere to eat for both Lunch and Dinner.... we eventually found a great restaurant beside the Marina, which was absolutley brilliant!

We decided not to dine in the Hotel as we are both in our early 20's.... less than half the age of nearly all other patrons..... so decided we would explore the area. We must have tried at least 10 places that were shut for the season. We struggled to find a decent bar.... If you want to leave the car at the Hotel and go out for a drink then forget it... as each bar is about 5km's apart! We Went into "paddywack's" irish bar..... it looks very dated... leather peeling off couches, plastic garden furniture...... a proper Benidorm style pub! Wasn't given much of a welcome as "the regulars are in tonight for the Wednesday night Quiz"...... hmmmm. We Won't be going back to La Manga, as it seemed to me like it was one very long retirement village.....

“Perfect but potential nightmare...”

Just back from business trip to Cartagena. As I had a spare day, I decided to stay in La Manga rather than in town. Booked the four star Mangalan from its web description.

What can I say? It was perfect. From the moment, I emailed them, the staff were helpful, polite, efficient. The hotel was as described - great location and spotless. the bedroom was well equipped and the bathroom had everything you would need - loads of toiletaries, hair dryer etc. The breakfast was wonderful - full display of Spanish and other foods. There were two hot tubs outside with wonderful warm water. There was a lovely cafe patio area. There was a spa and treatments available but we didn't have time this visit. All very pleasant and I would visit again.

So why did I say 'potential nightmare'? I'd visit again but in March. I would not go near the place if it was in high season. Why? The bedroom was lovely but led directly on to the corridor which meant there was no buffer to the sound. All the floors were marble so the clang when anyone walked on them was huge. All the bedrooms slammed closed. There were only a few of us there so none of this was a problem but the idea of being in the hotel in high season with all rooms full would meant a lot of clanging, banging doors and screaming children!

The swimming pool was tiny and while there was a baby pool, it was very small too. it looked like neither would be sufficient when the hotel was full to capacity.

We parked on the street which was possible at the time. Hotel parking, we were told, was €12 per night - a hefty fee if you were staying there for more than a few night. In high season, I suspect it would be absolutely impossible to get parking near by if you didn't park in the hotel carpark.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. This is a very good hotel. We would like to go back but not high season.

“Pleasantly surprised”

We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel, very clean and nice modern reception, bar and restaurant area. Bar prices were reasonable. All staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The hotel spa looked lovely but our trip was short so we never got to use the facilities.

The hotel was easy to find - it was our first trip to La Manga and the route from Murcia airport was straightforward and took no more 40 mins.

Beds were comfortable and the room was clean and had everything you could need, including some toiletries, an electronic safe, tea/coffee making facilities and a good sized fridge.

The buffet breakfast selection was nice and there was plenty of choice, including unlimited coffee/tea.

A garage is available on site for parking but costs a whopping 12euro per day! Due to the time of year we were able to park outside the hotel for free, but spaces are limited so don’t think this will be possible in busier times.

“nice hotel , quiet location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2008

Im just back from a stay at the mangalan hotel . While i found the hotel itself to be of a good standard (good size rooms and balconies, mini bar, air con , helpful reception staff and typical continental breakfast ) i found the area to be very quiet - we visited in off season but even if we had visited in high season the hotel is approx 40mins walk from plaza bohemia with a small selection of restaurants and 15mins drive from cabo de palos harbour area with its wide selection of restaurants mainly serving fish . The area around the hotel has no restaurants to speak of and only a handful of shops.
The hotel is across the road from the main beach and in front of a small cove so if you want just a beach holiday its ideal - the hotel outdoor pool closes on 30sept and if you want to use the indoor pool they charge 18euro for an hours use ( this includes the 10% discount for being a hotel resident) . I found the public transport to be lacking in the area -the only way to get to the hotel from murcia airport is by taxi which costs 50euro one way .
If you are looking for a quiet , beach holiday the mangalan hotel is perfect - spotlessly clean, a good cafe and restaurant ( 25euro per person for 3course meal with bottle of house wine) but a little too far down the main strip.

  • Liked — cleanliness, helpful and friendly staff and the views from the balcony
  • Disliked — its very quiet location
