The Parador de Ferrol is officially rated a 3 star property (most other Paradors are 4 or 5).
If you adjust your expectations accordingly (and dependant upon the price you pay for your room) there is every liklihood that you will receive reasonable value for money. The Parador is in an interesting part of the city - sits on a hill overlooking the old port and the warehouses that line the dock. There are many restaurants and bars within easy walking distance.
Is this the most amazing Parador in the chain - no - are the rooms large - no - is the room comfortable and does it provide a good nights sleep - yes. Are the public areas comfortable and functional and convey some of the historical atmosphere of the city - yes.
We ate at the restaurant, rather than venture out (heavy thunderstorm) - and so broke our golden rule that says that "hotel restaurants will generally not live up to expectations". Our meal was adequate - you wouldn't give it high marks for flavour, presentation or originality. Nor would you find significant faults. Our only real criticism was that the service was slow (for everyone in the restaurant that evening). The restaurant ambience was pleasant without being memorable. the breakfast the following morning, with the benefit of views on a bright morning was a better experience.
In giving a rating for the hotel - I struggled - it is probably deserving of a 3 and half rating - it is not above average, nor is it just average.
