“adult toys in the pool!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

visited la cala hotel in june/july and september. weather very hot both times just the hotel was less full in june/july. which made for very peaceful mealtimes. we were on full board.
paella every lunchtime mmm ! but never served at the evening meal.
rice pudding most days. lovely.
throught the week the soups were pea, tomato, mushroom that was it.
omelletes for breakfast but were left to dry out. make sure you get a freshly made one.
ordered a picnic which i didnt like but the cat on formentera really enjoyed it.
the lamb shanks we had at dinner were gorgous and i just had to complement the chef on them but there were also diced carrots on the menu. urgh!!! reminded me of school dinners and i actually loved school dinners but not the diced carrots.
sunbeds were too close to each other by the pool so i asked if the waiter who cleaned the area at night could rearrange them better. he never did, so i had to.
sunbeds on one side get mostly sun and the other side shade and it was a bit of a laugh watching them at 9 am when the barrier goes up and they start rushing for the beds. always the beds in the sun.
the pool was warm and gets the sun about 2 til4pm. nice depths not too deep.
air con was fantastic and the ceiling fan was wonderful.
2 dinky reading lights, but i had to change my room and in both rooms a light bulb had gone.
does nobody report light bulbs that dont work?
we had some adult toys in the pool. 2 lilos, 2 foam swimming aids, a crocodile, a football, bat and balls until these were confiscated and put out of sight .these were all items left behind.
shame as people enjoyed having a play and they were always put back into the playpen (kids pool) after use. what we secretly hoped for was somenone leaving behind a rubber dingy as the bats would have made good oars !!
scenery on the coach transfer from the airport to santa eulalia was stunning.
tv channels were only cnn and sky
we did the coastal walk from santa eulaia to es cana. very nive and it took 1 hour but i will not be doing it again as some of the paths are falling into disrepair and are very dangerous.
the mini train which you catch at the town hall is very amusing and goes right out into the countryside and includes a free drink.
lovely boat ride into es cana , ibiza town and forementera from the harbour.
we cycled on formentera but it was too hot.
the prom is lovely by day and by night and there is live music in the harbour and on the prom.
but latin music there is non.
oh there was a salsa night at bar la sal in june but that was up for sale in september.
we wanted a pool view when we booked the holiday so we paid for one.
the hotel was full in september.
this hotel ticked most of my boxes.
the man on reception and you will know him when you meet him was absolutely delightful and what a smile.
there was a whirlpool but this was in the spa area and had to be paid for.
the drinks in the bar were reasonable and my husband recommends the mojita as he is a connisseur and says it was the best in santa eulalia.

Room Tip: pay for a pool view. nice and quiet.

“Decent hotel and well located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

I wouldn't normally go to Ibiza, we went only because of a wedding and located ourselves close to where it was taking place (Es Cana, a little north of Santa Eulalia). The hotel seemed very reasonable for half board so we took the plunge and pretty much enjoyed our stay. I was with my wife and a friend and his other half and we all agreed that it was very good value for money.

The hotel is situated just off the main drag and a two minute walk to the mini marina and a further three or four minutes to the beach. The rooms are well presented although probably only three and a half star in my view - ask for a room overlooking the pool as you get a small balcony. It was busy at the hotel when we went in late September but it must be mentioned that the vast majority of guests were of, er, pensionable age. This of course can be a good thing if you want a quiet break - the barman told me that it's much more lively in June, July and August when the clientele are much younger. The only issue I had with the fact that the people were more senior was that we had some really withering looks from those around the pool when we decided to play with a football while swimming. We really didn't make much noise but most wanted to sleep or read in peace so we curtailed our fun and laid in the sun instead.!

I'd like to go into detail about the food but the truth is that we ate out every night - not because we heard it wasn't good but merely because the help yourself buffet offering is not really our cup of tea and we spent alot of time in other towns too. The breakfast is very decent as far as buffet breakfasts go, there is incredible choice and the coffee machines are good but please avoid the orange juice - it never fails to amaze me that we get far superior orange juice in the UK and the Spanish literally have it growing on trees. Oh well, a small issue - there's so much on offer I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy.

I must admit that I'd never go back to Santa Eulalia, it's a nice enough place but the west and north west of the island is much prettier and classier in my opinion, we even had a great evening at Cafe Del Mar in San Antonio although the main drag looked like you had to be under 30 (or think you are). Suffice to say that unless you're a clubber, avoid San Antonio like the plague, in fact I would say the same applies to Playa d'en Bossa near the airport - a real Costa del Blackpool.

To summarise, the hotel is well located, clean, decent and good value with a huge breakfast choice if you have to stay in Santa Eulalia but if I ever returned to Ibiza it would undoubtedly be on the west coast where you're never far from that beautiful sunset.

Beautiful hotel, very clean and modern. Rooms have good quality furnishings and fittings and are very comfortable. The food was varied and plenty to choose from. The hotel is situated one street up from the promenade in the middle of shops and restaurants, and close to the bus station. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Room Tip: some rooms overlook the busy streets, so ask for a pool view.

“Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

We have just returned from a weeks full board stay at this hotel. From start to finish we cannot fault anything. All staff we encountered were polite, helpful and very friendly - especially Juan and Celso behind the bar:) I had emailed in advance asking for a high floor and we were given a room on the 4th floor pool facing. The rooms were spacious & clean, had a fridge, ceiling fan and air conditioning. Pool/beach towels were available for a 20euro deposit each which you got back at the end of the week.
The food in the restaurant was lovely, plentiful and fresh. Every lunchtime there was a paella, plus fresh grilled meats/fish whatever the chef was show cooking that day. Evening meals were equally as good with another great selection of dishes.
Drink prices for the hotel were great, a large glass of red wine was 2.20 euro and a small beer was 2 euro.
Location as mentioned previously is really central to the marina, shops, and restaurants.
We hired a car for the week which enabled us to see a lot of the island. Highlights were - lunch at El Bigotes at Cala Mastella, walk from Santa Eulalia along the coast road to Punta Arabi/Es Canar to the Hippy Market, sundowner at Cafe del Mar San Antonio, absolutely beautiful coves & beaches including Cala Benirras, Cala Salada, Sa Caleta, Cala d'Hort, walk around Eivissa town.....this was our first visit to the island and most definitely wont be our last.

Room Tip: Some rooms are street facing so there is some traffic noise - pool facing rooms are quieter.

“Fantastic hotel”

This hotel totally deserves its great reviews. My friend and I had a great week there. Staff were very friendly, food good, variety and presentation. I had emailed previous to our visit to ask for a high pool facing room and that is what we got. Just a great holiday.
Hotel was well located - only a few minutes from shops, marina and the promonade where every one walked most nights with numerous bars and eateries.
Beach was lovely too. Had to pay for sunbeds and parasol but well worth it.
All in all a lovely break.

Room Tip: Just email prior to visit, thats what we did.
