“breath taking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Had a fabulous stay. We flew to Pisa hired a car which took us to this delightful hotel. Our room was comfortable and clean, staff are very friendly and helpful especially the reception staff they could not help you enough. Breakfast was a delight. We was surrounded by Vinyards (breath taking and so relaxing).

Each day we would set off to the train station which is not too far, very reasonable 4 euros return from one city too another, you are able to park your car (no charge for parking). We visited Florence, siena, san Gimignano, Lucca all beautiful to see the best for me was Florence we visited here 3 times. After an exhausting day we went back to the Hotel to the bar where we sat on the balcony with a glass of wine.

The day we was due to fly back we visited Pisa. Loved the tower would reccomend going for a day. Make sure you eat inside the arch as we made the mistake eating outside thinking it would make it cheaper. It was much cheaper inside, we realised this once we had already eaten.

Can't wait to go back again next year.

“This place is perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

Me and my partner stayed here one week in july 2011.
The hotel is very clean, the room was standard size but OK, bathroom OK. 2 pools, we only swimmed in one and that was very good with plenty of poolside chairs and tables but the other one also was OK.
The rececption staff was always very helpfull for tourist info or to book a restaurant reservation. Special thanks to Katia of the reception! She helped us very much with reservations and restaurant info. The staff also speak good English.
The complementary breakfast was standard but regarding the roomrates OK. Only minus here was the breakfast room itself. When we stayed at the hotel it was almost fully booked and then the breakfast room was just too small!
Overall Villa Saulina is definitely a very good hotel to stay also because it's superb location just outside Firenze and by car all the other cities like Pisa and Lucca are very easely reachable whithin one hour driving. Also the coast, Viareggio is just one hour by car.
We will definitely stay here again when we come to tuscany!

“We loved everything about Villa Saulina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

We loved everything about Villa Saulina. Martina gave us a warm welcome! And advised us during the trip. The location is beautyfull. It is nessesary to go by car or rent a car. Perfect location to visit Florence, Lucca and Siena. The Restaurant has great food and wine with good service Aline is great! They have two identical swimming pools. We had a room in the villa. The room is great, it is not that big but who need a big room with that scenery and beautyfull cities nearby. So if you want to have a great time in Toscany book Villa Saulina!

“Wouldn't rush back!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

Judging by the reviews here we may have got unlucky but I'm afraid we weren't very impressed.

The drive up to the main reception building (the original villa by the looks of it) was quite impressive but to the best of my knowledge none of the guest rooms are actually in this building.

At reception we were kept waiting for over 20 minutes with barely an acknowledgement while both receptionists sorted out another booking problem. We had been travelling all day and were it not for the fact that my credit card would have been charged, we would have left.

Eventually we were taken to our room in one of the outbuildings where we found we were overlooking the dirty laundry store. We asked for another room but to no avail.

The room itself was very small, too small in fact for two people with luggage, but quite nicely decorated. On the plus side, the room was on the ground floor and had double doors which opened onto a lawn and if we positioned our table and chairs to face away from the laundry store it was actually quite pleasant.

Other travellers have mentioned the poor quality of the breakfast. It wasn't exciting but it was adequate for us.

We did not use the restaurant, our initial greeting and the location of the room made me stubbornly refuse to spend any money in the hotel.

The location is OK but there are no restaurants or bars nearby. Florence and Siena can be easily reached by car.

It our opinion there are better places to stay in Tuscany than this.

“Could be so much better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

Beautifull views all around the villa.Great place to relax and enjoy the Tuscany hills and views .Rooms are decent .We booked 4 superior Doubles which were all located in the main villa .No complains there.18.5 kilometers from Florence which was fine for us as we knew it beforehand and chose the place as the starting place for visiting Florence , Pisa, Lucca and San Girmignano.
Nice looking relaxing twin swimming pools.
What really spoiled our trip were the litle things .Very basic breakfast served by people who wished they were doing something else .No water in the morning for small periods of time which meant we had to wait covered in soap forthe water to come back and getting rinsed.
Doors were not soundprrof which meant you hear everyone coming in or out of their rooms .
Restaurant in the Hotel is operated by a different management and really annoyed us with the slow service .
Overall a hotel located in a great place in the Tuscan hills but we were not sorry to leave it behind.
